Random Updates
I have been doing a lot of blogging about scrapbooking lately. I thought I should take a few minutes and update you on other random things going on with me in Nashville.
The Jesus I Never Knew by Philip Yancey – This is the book we are reading in my every other Monday night bible study. Last night we discussed chapters three and four. Chapter three is all about Jesus’s Jewish roots and what being Jewish meant when he walked the earth. I have always known Jesus was Jewish, but never really thought about what this meant. Learning about the period and the religion at the time was really eye-opening for me. Chapter four is about Satan’s temptation of Christ. The chapter is filled with a-ha! moments. Take this for example:
“The more I get to know Jesus, the more impressed I am by “the miracle of restraint. The miracle Satan suggested, the signs and wonders the Pharisees demanded, the final proofs I year for – these would offer no serious obstacle to an omnipotent God. More amazing is his refusal to perform and overwhelm. God’s terrible insistence on human freedom is so absolute that he granted us the power to live as though he did not exist, to spit in his face, to crucify him. All this Jesus must have known as he faced down the tempter in the desert, focusing his mighty power on the energy of restraint.”
I encourage you to get The Jesus I Never Knew. This book is challenging, insightful and well-researched. I am loving it.
Work – Lovell is going well. My workload has picked up, which I love. I love being busy at work. On a sad note, my mentor and closest friend at Lovell, Cate, is going to be leaving to pursue another opportunity around November 1. I found out yesterday and cried for more than an hour. While I love everyone on our staff, Cate is the one who challenged me the most when I was a young assistant account executive. She took me under her wing and shared a piece of herself with me. As one of the most private people I know, this means the world to me. We still have two months together, which is good. It is things like this that make me remember the importance of being thankful for what you have every day. You never know when God is going to change your circumstances. And though, in the moment, it is difficult to understand why, I have come to trust that his ways are not mine, and he always knows best.
Believing God – I am also doing a Thursday night study at Fellowship Bible Church. It is Beth Moore’s Believing God. The first session was last week. I have never done a Beth Moore study before, but am looking forward to going deeper in my study of the bible.
Target – Okay, so Target has some amazing deals right now. Holy smokes! All their summer children’s toys are 50-75% off. I got some awesome Christmas gifts for my nieces and nephew. Also, any remaining scrapbooking stuff that they have is marked down to 75% off. I got some awesome Prima wood trays to alter for $3 (for two). I also got a making memories album for $2. Then, the best part is that the See Spot Save area has a ton of new scrapbooking stuff – including chipboard letters! I am stalking Target trying to get the rest of them. I have gotten three of the designs, but I hear there is a fourth. I am crazy, I know. Here is a layout I designed with the glitter and patterned letters.
Time to go get ready for work. Thanks for reading this long post. 🙂
I got those same letters this weekend! Haven’t used them yet, but I can’t wait! I picked up the felt flowers, too — so many for $1!!! Your LO looks great, btw!
oh love that LO…I know the Target See Spot is so fun right now.
