Itching to be Creative
I am itching to be creative. As some of my long-time readers may have noticed, I have not posted a scrapbooking page or altered project in awhile. Prior to being pregnant, I used to scrapbook almost every day – well, at least 4-5 times a week. I truly believe I am a happier person when I am playing with paper, felt, buttons, etc. But first morning sickness and exhaustion got in the way and then I became super busy at work. Well with nine weeks (hopefully less) until Elias makes his birthday, I am on a mission. I must get some major scrapbooking done. Life as I know it is about to change.
Did you find that there were things you did less of when you were pregnant?
Jess,
To me scrapbooking is an outlet. I have always found that sewing, making bracelets, using my embroidery machine, etc. (just anything crafty) just picks me up & makes me mellow regardless of what’s going on in my life.
Thirteen weeks ago, I had a screw replaced in my right foot (remember me in the wheel chair at Audrey’s memorial?). When they opened up my foot the bone (5th. metatarsal) was dead & most of it was removed, a new screw inserted & a bone graft was taken from my right knee. I was NON-WEIGHT bearing for 8 weeks. It was a very long 8 weeks. I couldn’t scrapbook or do anything crafty because my foot insisted on being elevated in the recliner or in my bed. Needless to say, I got so very depressed. But three weeks ago, I was finally able to put my foot down for short periods of time. You know where I headed….to my scrapbooking room!
I would be so down & the tears would just start flowing….off to scrapbook I would go & bingo it would be o.k. then.
I finished the scrapbook of our N.Y.C. trip last summer two nights ago. It felt great to say “I’m done!” Thank you God for allowing someone the creativity to introduce scrapbooking to our world.
All of that said, just wanted you to know that I am one of your scrapbooking sisters, Jess. Soon, you will have a whole new world of scrapbooking at your fingertips. Enjoy every minute of Eli & snap, snap, snap those photos. Look out scrapbooking stores here she comes!
I always enjoy your blog. Eli will soon be here…I’ll continue to pray for you. God has a beautiful way of bringing people together, doesn’t he?
By the way, I’m going to be looking for that Cabo sunset….we leave Sunday for a 7-day Mexican Rivera cruise & we’ll be in Cabo on Tuesday.
Have a great week…..

Oh yes! I completely lost my creativity when I was pregnant. It took me a really long time to get it back.
For the first few months, I did silly swaps just to get in the hang of it. Some of them were REALLY lousy, but I eventually got better.
That was REALLY strange for me to lose my creativity!
Definitely. Before I was pregnant, I used to sing constantly. I have been singing since I was five years old and I had been blessed beyond measure with the possibilities of performing and leading worship for our church’s congregation. After I got pregnant, I found I didn’t have the energy, or even the strength to sing. And she took up all my lung capacity! LOL! I couldn’t breathe!
Even after my dd was born, I still don’t have the energy to do as many things, including singing, as I want to. But I believe that is because God has made raising my family and taking care of them (including my husband who is a college pastor and is very busy) my ministry. And I am honored, humbled. I know that eventually, there will come a time when the children are grown (Lord williing) and I will be able to do more things outside of the home, but for right now…I am happy to take care of Madi. Although I do daydream about auditioning for American Idol every so often! LOL! A girl can dream!
It will come back…it just takes time and you will find you will have to schedule those moments for scrapbooking as it will be harder to do it on the spur.
I would say that everyone probably goes through it. I’m 28 and the mother of 3, they are all 2 years apart and the youngest is 4 months old. I have always had a passion for baking and trying to be creative with that and being pregnant was definitely a task. It was really weird because with each pregnancy I always got bombarded with wedding cake orders. With my second child I had 4 weddings in one summer, it was so hard that I got to the point where I just stopped until she was born. i think it happens to the best of us. We just have to make sure to take time for ourselves especially after the baby comes. Whether its talking to God, scrapbooking, or making cakes every mom needs that little bit of something for themself. You’ll find your balance.
I tend to do more when I am pregnant, just thinking that all my free time is going to be gone for a few months puts me in a tizzy. I sewed like crazy while pregnant the 3rd time. Finished curtains for three rooms and also made some pillows. The night before I had Brewer I was on an eight foot ladder hanging curtain rods! I’m a big time nester when pregnant.
Yeah, getting up off the couch is something that I do a lot less of when I’m pregnant!!!! LOL!!
I’ve been bit again by the creative bug too…..hmmm….felt?
I think I’ll cut out some felt flowers with pinking shears!!
Thanks for the idea!

I just lost my brains when I was pregnant…and after three kids I still haven’t gotten them back! LOL
Amen, love paper. i just got a scrapping corner and am sio excited. good luck with the pregnancy
Yes, I totally lost the ability to see my feet and tie my shoes! I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now. I think I was led here through Audrey Caroline’s site. This is the first time I am commenting! Thank you for sharing your life! I too, LOVED to scrapbook but then after I had two children I just lost the creative spirit like others have mentioned. I really would like to get it back. I still haven’t done my children’s baby books. So sad!
I am a scrapbooker as well and was COMPLETELY caught up before Katrina. Then I had my youngest daughter that November and now I’m over a year behind. I don’t think I’ll ever catch up again! It used to bother me to be so far behind but now I find it really fun to go back and look through the “old” pictures. It’s amazing how quickly kids change and grow. With two children, a husband, and a full-time job there’s a lot that I used to be able to do but can’t now …besides scrapbooking there’s reading, exercising, shopping in peace and quiet, showering (just kidding)…
