Books, Books, Books
I have always been a voracious reader. Matthew and I love books – our condo is overflowing with them. There are literally shelves and piles in almost every room. So, I thought I would post what I am currently enjoying:
Churched – First off, Matthew’s first hardback releases two months from tomorrow and we are so excited about it. Seriously – whether you are a person of faith or not, you will surely enjoy this book. His brilliant, David Sedaris-esque way of telling his story of growing up in a fundamental Baptist church is so readable and funny. You can read the prelude here and pre-order it here (you won’t be billed until the book ships).
Mary – Every gift-giving occasion Matthew gives me a book. This book, about Abe Lincoln’s wife was voted best historical fiction book of the year by USA Today. I am only 17 pages into it and already loving it.
Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home – While I am far from super “green” I am interested in ways I can keep Elias healthy and make the world a better place for him. I have found this book to be informative, practical and doable. I am excited about the changes we are going to make in our home – like using more green cleaning products.
Play and Learn – This book gives recommended activities for babies and young children. Right now we are enjoying singing to Elias, reading to him (did you know that babies who are read to often grow up to have larger vocabularies because they heard more words when they were babies?), and other fun development activities.
A Long Obedience in the Same Direction – This is the next book my book club/bible study/women’s group is going to read. I love The Message, so am excited to read a book by Eugene Peterson. If you have never been a big bible reader, you might check out The Message, as it is the bible in an easy to read, every day language format. I love it.
What are you reading right now?
You can tell we read to you nightly form your passion of books. Love you sweetheart, mom
I am looking forward to grabbing one of your husband’s books soon! And at the moment I am reading Dear John, a book by the same author that wrote The Notebook. I know, I know, a little sappy but I was in a romantic mood at the bookstore 🙂
Hey!! I have left a few comments, especially around Elias birth, but now that I am babysitting a 3mo old, my computer time is N/A!!!
I am looking forward to reading “Churched”. We grew up in Murfreesboro, went to Franklin Rd Bapt Church, very much like what Matthew talks about in some of his blogs! I married a ‘charismatic’ Christian and we now attend the church that he grew up in – in Texas!
At the moment, I am reading “Waking the Dead” by John Eldredge…I love his writing! This is like the 5th book of his that I have read. I just finished “Blade Silver” by Carlson…my youngest daughter walked through a similar situation in the spring so it was important for me to read.
Thanks for the opportunity to share! Have a terrific day!

Anne Lamott’s Grace (Eventually)
and, when I’m finished with that (at this rate, later today)…
Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love.
By the way, the little notes you get from your mom and dad are so sweet. 🙂
I just finished reading “Why I jumped” Here is the real live police video of this lady jumping. True story. Amazing story.
I would like to recommend the book Disease Proof Your Child by Dr. Joel Fuhrman.
Jessica,
Your dad just read the Milwaukee Journal and it looks like Brett Favre is leaving Green Bay. Life will just not be the same!!!
🙂

Hello Jessica. I have been reading your blog since Elias was born. I am another link from Angie’s blog! Elias is so precious. Although I do not have children, I have appreciated your candidness about parenthood and am enjoying reading both your blog and your husband’s and love the pictures and videos. However, this post sparked my interest as I love to read. I am currently reading the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich – the one with the numbered books. I am on “To The Nines”.
I have just finished reading “Same Kind of Different As Me” by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. It is an amazing true story, and I highly recommend it. It has been placed on a required reading list for Baylor University freshmen.
I love Mary Todd Lincoln – ever since high school I have been fascinated by her. You will definitely enjoy learning more about her life from girlhood to after Lincoln’s death. Right now I am reading Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole – I have only started it but have enjoyed it so far.
Right now I am reading The Choice by Nicholas Sparks and The Bible! I will definitely be reading Matthew’s book!!!
