Shock! We Made It!
Well, I cried about eight times during the day, but I made it. Elias did great. He took all his bottles with no problem and was as sweet as could be. I’m not surprised.
My colleagues were so warm and loving. I walked in to work and my boss stopped in my office and I bursted into tears. She gave me a big hug, which was followed by hugs from several others. So sweet.
Pumping also went well at work. I only had to do it twice since I nursed Elias at lunch, so that wasn’t too bad. I was even able to continue working by reading documents that needed my attention. Perfect!
Today Elias has his first shot, so Matthew is going to take him home for the afternoon. Then tomorrow is Elias’s last day at day care for the week and we have the long weekend to look forward to!
Thank you for all the encouraging comments yesterday. I am definitely going to take a camera to leave there. My old film point and shoot will be perfect. It at least has a zoom and I know takes good pictures.
Oh and a quick aside – our power was out this morning! I was freaking out that we were going to lose the 50 bags of milk in our freezer, but luckily, it came back on. Thank goodness!!
Love the picture!
It looks like he was so excited to see you after work ~ doesn’t he!
Wow ~ mommy’s home!
Have a great week.
The title and the picture are so perfect! I’m glad you made it!!! I’m sure it’s painful!
saying lots of prayers for you guys while your in this transition!!! love you!
We are praying for you during this transition…You’re doing great!!!
You’ll grow to love your lunch hour with him…I know I did. It really helped in the early days with the daycare guilt and when their faces light up when they see you, it lets you know that the decisions you’ve made were the perfect ones for your family!! Each of my children have LOVED their daycare experience and I feel strongly they are better for it.
Yikes to the power going out! I bet you were freaking out .. that’s gold liquid in your freezer. That’s awesome that you’ve exclusively BF AND still have that many pumped ounces (as a previous exclusive pumper for 8 months, I know it’s serious double duty) that’s awesome! 🙂
How wonderful that you are able to nurse him at lunch and only pump 2xs at work. Even better that you’ve trained him to successfully do both! Good job, Jessica!! 😀
Hi Jess,
I'm a little behind in my commenting, but had to say that your sister is simply ADORABLE !
And, HAD to say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cowboy hat for Elias ! That is just way too cute !
So glad to hear how you survived your first day back to work. I so remember those days, even though it was a long time ago. Some things a Mom just doesn't forget.
I was fortunate enough to have 10 weeks off before I had to return to work, but it didn't make it any easier. The comfort came in knowing my son was as content & happy as he could be with his caretaker. I had a wonderfully, blessed Christian young Mom that "adopted" my son as her own. She had a little girl just 6 weeks older than mine and people even thought they were twins !
But, all that to say that he never once cried when I left him each morning. I was confident in her love for him & his for her, not to mention her Christian beliefs, rules, up-bringing, etc. It just all worked for us !
To know your child is happy & you completely trust your care-giver…takes a HUGE load off of a working Mom. 🙂
Have a good day !
Love,
Jackie Carl
if you have time… tag you’re it!
I’m so proud of you! 🙂 I’m glad everything went well and will continue to pray for you and your family 🙂
Your little one is quite a cutie! Going back to work is always hard. ((hug))
btw….if you are trying to figure out who the heck I am, don’t worry because you don’t KNOW me! lol! I stalk your blog sometimes from Kelli’s link. So it’s official. You have a stalker.
And you have been tagged over on my blog. Welcome to random poster stalker week. lol!
Hey Jessica,
The power going out would have made me totally lose it. Thank God you didn’t lose all that liquid gold…
I am a writer acquaintance of Matthew’s and have a scrapbooking book I would like to send to you (Plus I had asked for a snail mail address to send a gift…so if I pass your reference checks at http://www.kathypride.com send me an email and I will be able to send you goodies.(I am also the childbirth educator who commented from time to time while you were in labor, mostly on Matthew’s blog) I have a pregnancy and childbirth book that has made it through first round approval with two editors…of course they gave it a different little less edgy title, my chosen title was I LAUGHED, I COUGHED, I SNEEZED I PEED.
But anyway, hope to hear from you so I can send you some goodies.
Kathy
You’re doing great…
so glad to hear his day went well and yours wasn’t so bad. i will continue to lift y’all up in my prayers for a sommth transistion.
blessings ~
You have 50 bags of milk in your freezer???!!!! You are the woman!
That’s a lot of work and yes–liquid gold! Glad you didn’t loose that. And I’m glad the pumping went well.
The first week I was back to work, I spilled a bottle of pumped milk all over my skirt. Someone offered to let me go home to change, but I didn’t have anything else that fit at home!!! Such a bummer . .
I liked your “milk” sign that you created for your door. I thought of you last week when someone walked into my locked room when I was pumping. I dove under my desk–it all worked out all right, but I think both of us were embarrassed. I need a sign for my door!
GREAT picture! I think we have a similar one of my daughter around that age. You were in my prayers yesterday! I have been blessed to be home with my daughter for 10 almost 11 months, when we only planned for me to be off 6 months. I am interviewing for a new job Thursday so I might be back to work soon. I know I will have a rough time. I am so happy you have a great work situation, can see your lil man at lunch and have great co-workers! Us new mamas need support! HUGZ!

Jessica, your little guy is absolutely beautiful. I know this will be a touchy subject…but I feel burdened to tell you that I hope you will pray and seek godly counsel to reconsider your “need to work.”
I don’t say this to be mean, or to offend you, but I am always saddened to see that so many Christian women have bought what the world is selling, and have traded their precious role of mother for the earthly ideals of “fulfillment” and “identity” and “me time.” Work will always be there, but we only get one chance to shape and guide our children. I have to think there’s a reason why mothers feel so much pain and guilt about being separated from their children to go to work — perhaps it’s because it’s just not meant to be that way.
Please understand, I’m not one of the radical, anti-education, anti-career ladies who believe that women shouldn’t work outside the home ever. I just believe that in the season of life when we have children at home, the job God has called us to is the job of raising them.
I wish you well, and may God bless you and your sweet boy.
That picture is priceless! 🙂
