  1. I KNOW IT SOUNDS CRAZY BUT MY FATHER IN LAW SUGGESTED PUTTING VICKS VAPOR RUB ON THE BOTTOM OF MADISONS FEET WHEN SHE HAS A COLD AND COVERING THEM WITH SOCKS. TOTALLY WORKED FOR ME! ALSO ON CHEST AND BACK. THEY MAKE VICKS FOR BABY NOW TOO AND ITS NOT AS STRONG!

  2. You are doing the very best thing for him..and that is giving him your milk..full of your antibodies.
Babies will get colds..especially if they are exposed to “new” environments, like a daycare situation..keep breast feeding..that is the very best thing for him at this young age..

  3. De-lurking to agree with the Vick’s. My pediatrician actually recommended this to me and it really works! Of course, my Mom uses Vick’s like the family on Big Fat Greek Wedding uses Windex, so she was very happy with my choice of pediatrician! Good luck on the Southwest thing.

  4. I would recommend NOT doing the humidifier. I am convinced that it does nothing but prolong colds – at least in my children. I have tried 4 different ones and they all leave a yucky “air” in the room. As soon as I turned off the humidifier, the girls were better within 1 day.

  5. Hi Jessica,
Colds are so awful to deal with, especially when they are that little.
Last spring we bought a battery operated nasal aspirator made by bebesounds. It still isn’t “fun” to do, but so much easier than the regular aspirator. It even plays music to distract the baby (a little).
Just a thought. We found it worth the twenty dollars.

  6. i second the vicks baby rub on front and back. i have never tried it on the feet though. must try that! any way vicks has always worked for me especially for coughs. cool mist humidifires are great also! good luck!

  7. Yes-yes-yes to the Vicks on the bottom of the feet. Works every time, usually takes about 1/2 hour to kick in for us. Just slather it on, put on footie jammies or socks, and it should buy you a reprieve. Also, Little Noses saline spray for the nose to get that crusty stuff out of there. They don’t love it, but they feel so much better afterward. With the humidifier, just make sure you clean it well so you’re not throwing mold spores back into the air. Those fist couple colds are awful! I never get used to seeing my kiddos suffer, but lots of my mommy friends have given me some great tips on helping them feel better.

  8. I agree with the other moms….my son is 14 months and has 2 bad colds and an ear infection…AND HE STAYS HOME….ugh. I remember he had is first bad cold when he was 3 months old. All I could do was leave him in his swing all night and it seemed to help. As they get older, using the Vicks, aspirator, saline drops, and humidifier works really well! The humidifier keeps the cold from getting in their chest and keeps the snot “loose” (sorry so dramatice) 😉 Colds are no fun whatever the age. Just watch how they act though….my son just got his first ear infection and the doc was surprised I knew what it was to take him in….I just knew he wasn’t HIMSELF!!! Moms always know best! YOu are a great mom! keep it up!

  9. Awe,poor little Elias! That first cold is horrible. It is so hard to see your children sick.My 3 month old hasn’t been sick yet but when my three year old got colds when she was a baby I would use saline spray and an aspirator and I would also give her Tylenol regardless of whether or not she had a fever.I know when I have a cold Tylenol makes me feel better so I think it helps a baby feel better. Also lots of cuddletime. And I have to say I LOVE your handwritting. You are a very talented “scrapper”.I would love to do it but it intimidates me.Good luck with Southwest.I’m rootin’ for ya!

  10. Just to share: Both my older children got the same ‘cold’ when they were each around 8 weeks old. My last baby, who is 10 years younger than the middle son, got the same thing. This time the same pediatrician told me almost ALL babies get their first bout of sniffles at around that age. It’s so pitiful, but evidently it happens around that time.

We sat our youngest in his carseat next to my side of the bed and it helped so much to have him sitting up. Good job, new mama!

  11. I don’t have any baby suggestions (considering I am a little young for that), but I did want to say how much I love your magazine layout! Beautiful. Love your crafts.

  12. We spent countless nights, sitting on the toliet with the bathroom door shut and the shower on HOT, this loosen the snot, and we found our son would fall asleep while in there or shortly after. We would get a full bulb full after this. We would sit in there for about 40 mintues(we left a small night light on so he could sleep.
    Best of luck

  13. I don’t think I’ve commented on your blog yet but I am a “lurker” and I love your funny videos and the adorable pics of your baby boy. I have a 17 month old son and I agree with all the Vick’s comments out there after using it on his feet last winter when he battled a bad cold/cough. My doctor told me that rubbing it on their feet helps it circulate through the body faster because the bloodstream flows so quickly from that point. Just remember to put socks on to keep him warm and so the Vicks doesn’t rub off! =o) The baby Tylenol or Ibuprofin also seemed to give him some temporary relief and help him sleep. Poor little guy, I’m sorry he has to deal with that! (And you, too!) Love the new scrapbook layouts!

  14. I love that project with your sister… I wish I was as talented (I also do scrapbooking) but is more like pictures with a backgroung and cute stickers 😛 I am trying to do better things and is a little hard because I live in DR and we only have like two stores and not a lot of supplies…
