Giveaway – Nine Ways God Always Speaks
As a Christian, listening for God’s voice is something we are supposed to do. But it sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Listening for a voice from a God in the heavens that we have never seen. I know in my own life, I have questioned, did I really hear that from God or is that just my mind giving me an answer?
That is the topic that Mark Herringshaw and my friend, Jennifer Schuchmann researched for their new book Nine Ways God Always Speaks.
For the book, Mark and Jennifer talked with dozens of people, compiling stories of how God has spoken into the lives of ordinary folks like you and me. The stories have really spoken to me because I could relate to them. That is something I love about Mark and Jennifer’s style – it is relatable.
I’m not finished with the book yet, but what I have read has been compelling and thought provoking. I believe this book will have an impact on many who have questions about the ways in which God speaks.
If this book sounds like something you would enjoy, please leave a comment to enter to win one (I have two to give away!). Maybe share a time you heard God speak. Or a question you have about hearing God. Whatever.
I will select the winners at random on Saturday.
Peace be with you today.

Hi Jessica! I’m 23 and graduated last Dec, so for the first time in my life I’m not on an assumed set path of school… I seek God’s guidance for what to do with my life from now on! Thanks!
Im interested to see what it has to say. I am not a big book person, so I would never on my own reach out and buy a book. My husband is though, and when he reads we often read together and discuss.
However, I have a friend that just lost her mom to cancer two weeks ago today. She is struggling with her faith right now and feels like she doesn’t hear God. She is here by herself and her family is in another state.
I think she could use something encouraging like this book and it’s title said exactly what she needs to hear.
So please enter me.
God Bless.
Jessica,I know this will be great. Please continue to keep me in your prayers.I go back to the doctor next week.I am scared, but I am trying to keep my eyes on the Lord!Hope you have a great day! Blessings, Faye
This book sounds like it is just what I am needing at this time in my life. Thanks.
sounds like a great book. it’s something my class at church discusses quiet often.
I really struggle with hearing God. I try to quiet my heart and be still but my mind starts to wander and gets distracted. I would LOVE to have this book! Thanks.
Gosh, this is always on my mind. I’m in a job I love and pays all our bills, but we are so far from family. We are constantly trying to listen to God about what we should do. It’s hard to put personal emotion aside and truly listen to His voice
I just started really looking for God. This might be really helpful. Thanks for the chance!
Sounds like an awesome book, something I could defintely learn from.
I hope to win the book….i always need to listen to hear what God wants and sometimes… like you…don’t know the difference in His will or my own!
thanks…love the blog 🙂
This would be something that would be worth reading.
This book definitely sounds relevant to where I’m at in my life right now! Thanks so much for sharing!! :O)
This book sounds very interesting. I sometimes think that when I pray, my mind answers me in the way I want it to, but I translate it to being God’s voice. I’d love to see what the book says about this.

I would love to read this book!! This is going to be long, but I want to share an email that I received today from a gentleman who works at our school district.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone for all the well wishes and offers of help. I cannot adequately express how much it means to us. Thank you.
Just to bring everyone up to speed on what we think we know up to now.
Sunday, all three boys and I were in Brainerd doing our annual Mothers Day shopping when we received the call from my wife that the house was on fire. She was home and asleep (she works 12 hour shifts at the hospital at night on the weekend).
The miracle of this story is what happened before she called me. A man that was a part of a motorcycle rally from Bemidji had for no apparent reason decided to break off from the group when they all decided to stop to eat, he started up Hwy. 64 towards home and saw the smoke. He apparently raced to the scene, noticed that our garage was gone and the two cars had exploded, as well as the Nissan pickup that was outside the garage was also on fire. He made an assumption there might be someone inside so he kicked in the door and went to the room where my wife was still sleeping, he woke her up and got her to get out of the house.
She then called me to make sure the boys were with me and that we were safe. The man that got Katza out of the house knew what to do because he also was a trained firefighter, he shut off the propane and power then managed to save our RV which was just about to go too.
We are truly blessed, there were some pretty unusual things that occurred that if any one of them would have happened differently, we would have lost my wife. She was still asleep when he came in and the flames were already in the bedroom.
Everything is ok with us, we did lose one pet but everyone else is fine, everything else is just stuff and insignificant by comparison. We have adequate insurance, Tom Good and his staff have been amazing through this so again, thank you for your support, well wishes and offers of support.

I am firmly believing that God spoke to the fireman and he listened!! Praise GOD!!
Sounds like a terrific book! I often wonder the same thing – did God tell me that or did my brain make it up….but I will say the times that I have felt led by God, the *feeling* about the idea/thought/concept felt different. Often times God’s voice to me is just that nagging one that won’t let that *one* thought go away….like a whisper in the back of my mind all the time.
Right now we are working on listening to God and his will in our lives. However just as we think we hear God saying yes it is time for you to move then everything goes haywire and we still haven’t moved. So we are just waiting till we for sure hear God’s voice telling us to move even though it is difficult.
I would love to read this book. It sounds great!
This sounds like a very good book, but the one that I’m going to be looking for right now is “Angry Conversations with God.” Then this one may be next.
Sounds like a book I’d like to read. Put my name in the hat!

Not entering the contest–praying that God helps you put the book in the right hands, and that those who will find it useful will be led to get it.
The one time I flat-out REFUSED to listen to a directive from God (after asking specifically for one!), I lived with the pain of that decision for years…I am thankful for his grace, but that was one consequence I could have lived without.
Sounds like a great book. My husband and I were just discussing this subject. Some insight would be great!
I would love to read this book! Throughout my life I have questioned whether God was answering or talking to me at all. I have come to realize that it’s not necessarily His lack of speaking, but instead my lack of listening. I have trouble being still and waiting on His voice. Thanks for the great contest!
Sounds like a really good book. I would love to check it out!
A very interesting topic which is often discussed! I would love to read it!
We always need to learn more about the voice of God! Thanks for sharing!
It’s something I struggle with… is that God speaking or my own voice speaking louder than HIS? Sounds a great book.
My sister is totally struggling with this right now. I would LOVE to share this with her.
This sounds like a very interesting book! I too wonder if God just said that or if it is just my mind giving an answer.
I would love to have a copy of this book. I have trouble hearing God or knowing when is trying to tell me something. Sounds insightful.
I was 23 and really struggling with clear direction in my life. I had worked a year as a (very poorly paid) intern in a collegiate ministry, and felt like God wasn’t done with me in that place yet, but wasn’t sure how it was all gonna work out. I had gone home, and my sister and I went to a Skillet concert that weekend. In the middle of the show, during a time of worship type music, John Cooper said something I will NEVER forget, because it was as if God had sent John to speak just to me, even though there were about 700 people there. He said something about how “God was really using some of you where you are, and i just feel like He wants me to tell you that He’s not done with you where you are,” or something like that. and in that moment, I knew I was not supposed to go on to seminary yet or anything else. God was not done with me in this area, and 11 years later, I’m still here, doing youth ministry, and I’m not sure that would have happened if not for that experience.
When I was out in the Czech Republic last summer teaching English at pre-camp training I was listening to a missionary couple explain how they ended up in the Czech Republic. They said how some of us would also end up preaching light where there is darkness and at that moment I knew, I just knew, that that was going to be.
And God confirmed all of that as I told some people close to me – to be met with responses of “So, God finally told you” or “You finally realised, huh?”
But now I have no idea etc etc what God has in store… Although I’m two years from graduating (UK) so God has a few years to get whatever the next step is into my thick skull!
Rach
This sounds like an interesting book 🙂 xo.
I’m in! Thanks!

I have not heard God speak in a long time. It sounds like a good book, maybe it would help me listen better.
I find that I hear God speak most clearly when I spend time in solitude. I also sense his voice in the words of wise people in my life.
God always speaks to me, but many times I’m pre-occupied or just don’t want to hear what he says. I know big no no…:)
I think that is one of the things in faith that I struggle with the most: how is God speaking to me – if at all? The book sounds wonderful!
Thanks for the giveaway and for your great book suggestions. I like your taste 🙂
Lynn
I would love to be entered into the contest. I truly struggle with what is God leading me and what are thoughts and ideas coming from other sources.
Wow I just read Tonia’s comment. Craziness. Glad everybody’s okay.
I’m really interested in what this book has to offer…
Nicole
I would love to win this book. I know that sometimes I know that it is God talking and other times I wonder if it is just what I want to hear, nothing more.
Cheryl
The book sounds very interesting!!
When my husband and I were dating I heard God speak clearly about our future. Also, when I chose to homeschool, I could hear God clearly saying it was the right thing for our family to do at the time.
Thanks for having a giveaway…
the book sounds great thanks for the chance. my grandmother would love it@!
Sounds like an excellent book! I would love to have a chance to read it.
I think I hear God all the time, but then I let self doubt take over. BUT, I do know that I heard him the moment I met my husband. It was a blind date, I was walking up the sidewalk to met him in front of a museum. As he turned around and we made eye contact…I heard God as clear as day…”Get ready Tracey, cause this is it!”
I have heard God speak to me clearly several times. But then I have also had times where I thought he was speaking to me but what he was asking me to do was strange or didn’t make sense so I questioned whether it was really God.
Sounds wonderful and yes I know God talks to me..sometimes I do not understand or listen but I do know He is talking to me.
i would love to read this! sometimes i need to be quiet and listen….to Him. workin’ on that 🙂
Wow! It seems like an awesome read. Please consider me for an entry.
Thanks for sharing!! I would love to have a copy of this book… I so enjoy your blog 🙂
I have often wondered if was God calling me to do something or whether I had just made up my mind on my own… this books sounds like a great read for someone like me. I am trying to find my faith again… and it is a daily struggle. Thanks for the post about it!

This sounds like a great book! A specific situation does not come to mind. I just know that I am constantly seeking Gods guidance with everyday situations and making decisions when it goes to one of my four kids.
I’d love to read this book. I’m praying through several different decisions right now, and could really use some help!

I would love to read this book. In college I had two friends who dated for a long time. The guy said God was telling him they should get married, and the girl said God was telling her they should break up. I was like, if it’s really God, why would He be telling them two different things? So I’d be very interested to read this book. Thanks!
Our home group was discussing this last night– and we were reminded of the time when God sent a talking donkey (Numbers 22). We were chuckling at the creativity God sometimes needs to use on those of us too stubborn to hear (who’s really the donkey here?)
I’d love to explore this topic further with this book!
I’m definately interested in this book. Recently God spoke loud and clear to me. I’ve always asked Him for guidance before, but this time His voice was like Thunder and I couldn’t ignore Him. Although I loved being a youth pastor at a small church with a great pastor…God told me through scripture, friends, quotes, etc that I needed to move on. My husband and I don’t know what is next, but we are becoming members at a great church and are enjoying being still and waiting for God to tell us what’s next. Last night was my last night with my youth group and although I will miss the youth to death…it felt right and I am at peace.
Blessings to your beautiful family.
Abby
Book sounds thought provoking just by the title. I know there are people that are convinced that God doesn’t speak at all today. Then there are those who think He tells them whether or not to brush their teeth! There is a fine line and I have been searching to find it.
My husband and I would like to read this to know some direction in our lives regarding work.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I would love to have this book. I have heard God speak to me through other people and through His word. I would love to explore this more.
Please enter me in your drawing! I would love to have this book as I have always wondered this myself. A good book on this topic (that I have yet to finish reading!) is John Eldredge Walking with God. Thanks!

Jessica, I would love to read this book. I’m doing the study Experiencing God right now and would love to hear what this book has to say about hearing from God. The topic has been on my mind a lot lately
If he has I don’t think I’ve heard him, but would love to win this.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Sounds like an interesting book. I’ve recently been working on breaking down barriers in my life and a few weeks God spoke to me during a women’s ministries conference and helped reveal one of those barriers – it was very freeing!
I’m interested! I love it whne I hear God speaking to me directly through His word. Just the right words at just the right time. Thanks for the chance!
hi Jessica, i lurk here often. I dont want to go into a lot of details but know that I have heard God and it was amazing! I dont necesarrily win the book but i do want to share. 😉
I went to a 3 day weekend (Great Banquet which is a great thing to do if you ever get a chance) and this happened while i was there.
The weekend is a really intense experience. At the time of my weekend my father was really ill and near death. I had never had a relationship with my dad due to his alcholism. During the weekend one of the things that was stressed was how much our heavenly Father loves us–and how he really is like our Daddy.
Anyway– that is something i have always struggled with since I never had that kind of relationship with my own Daddy– I am a true southern girl and still call him Daddy.
that night while trying to go to sleep i was thinking about the lesson from that evening. All of a sudden I got a kinda dizzy feeling and like i was rocking on a boat. (sorry this is getting so long) i kept trying to figure out what is going on with me — i was just beginning to get nervous when i realized==== This must be what it feels like to be rocked to sleep by your Daddy (Father in Heaven) –after a few moments of wonderment i went right off to sleep
That is one time i heard God speak to me in the sense of touch.
I also wonder sometimes if its my own mind, or if God is speaking to me. Sounds like a great book!
i would love the book!
At MOPS today, we had two women speak about their life story and it was touching to see how God works through people!!!
Sounds interesting. I often wonder how God is speaking to me and this sounds like it could answer a question or two!
This book sounds really interesting!! Thanks for sharing!
I would love to read this book.I don’t think God speaks to me- or I don’t know what to listen for or something. But I do believe he speaks to people and I would like to read their stories.
I have always asked myself the same, is this God speaking to me or just my subconscience?
Sounds like a very interesting book…..thanks for the chance to win!

I have learned God speaks loudest when we ACTUALLY listen! My husband and I had been going thru a rough patch and I was also having a difficult time with someone we had hired to do a job. I was in my craft room and I just cried out to the Lord that I felt like I was drowning. And He let me know he was my life line if only I would hold on to Him.
Would lovw to read this book and hear God’s Voice. Thanks for the giveaway.
That book sounds really interesting, especially because I’m in a place of seeking out God’s voice in a difficult situation. Thanks for sharing!
=) Sounds wonderful.
Sounds interesting. Everyone can benefit from looking to God for clarity and guidance.
I would love to have this book. Thanks!
Sounds like a very inspirational book.
