Hi Jessica:


I’m writing to beg you to help me win a $1M grant in the Chase Community Giving campaign on Facebook to cure a disease and save my daughter’s life.


I’m a dad. An extremely proud dad. My daughter, Gwendolyn, is two-years-old. She’s awesome. Plain and simple. But she has a genetic, terminal disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), the #1 genetic killer of infants, that has degenerated her body leaving her completely paralyzed and dependent on machines to eat, swallow, cough, and breathe — yet, her mind remains untouched. She’s “locked-in”. And at the ripe old age of two, she’s considered an outlier living with SMA.


There is no treatment and no cure for SMA, it’s a death sentence. Yet, research is mature and there are several promising programs currently on the brink of closing in on that cure. Literally. My wife and I refuse to sit back and wait for Gwendolyn to die. Instead, we are fighting alongside her trying desperately to save her life.


Our nonprofit, the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation, is focused on raising awareness of SMA and accelerating research towards that cure — for Gwendolyn and for all children battling this cruel disease. We have a unique opportunity to win a $1 Million grant in the Chase Community Giving campaign currently running on Facebook. How did that happen? Well, our supporters voted us to one of the top 100 organizations out of more than 500,000 charities in the first round and we’re now in 6th place with more than 32,000 votes in the final round that runs through Friday, January 22. We’ve pledged 100% of anything we receive from Chase to SMA awareness and research programs and this amount of funding, which is extremely material to SMA programs, WILL help accelerate that CURE for SMA and could save Gwendolyn’s life.
