Amy Grant: Stories and a Giveaway

In the early 90s, one of my favorite singers was Amy Grant. I listened to Baby, Baby and Every Heartbeat over and over and over again. At that age, I wanted to be a professional singer, and I swore I could sing the words just as well as Amy – especially when I was using my baton as a microphone.

I had no idea that this woman was a Christian and that when I was in college and had recently dedicated my life to the Lord, her music would once again impact me. 

I also never would have imagined that 12 years after dancing in my living room, singing Baby, baby I’m taken with a noo-tion, I would meet a man named Matthew who was the editor of a big Christian music magazine and actually knew Amy.

And that I would experience, through Matthew, that the Christian music industry could be very ugly toward Amy.  (Read this excerpt of Matthew’s Hear No Evil to understand what I mean, or buy the book here.

And that she and her husband Vince would be invited to our wedding.

And that they would be on our Christmas card list.

And that when our son Elias was born that she would respond to our news with the sweetest email.

And that basically, she is every bit as genuine in real life as she has always appeared to be.

Today I am thrilled that Matthew and I are jointly hosting an amazing giveaway in honor of her newest release album, Somewhere Down the Road. I have had the pleasure of listening to the album a few times already and in true Amy fashion, its wonderful. Beautiful lyrics. Hopeful words. Totally Amy. One song features one of of daughters, and the duet is BEAUTIFUL!
