World Vision Wednesday
I have a lot to do to get ready for my World Vision trip to the Dominican Republic.
Each Wednesday I am going to post what I have been working on or will be working on in that week. I hope this keeps me on schedule and helps you to feel like you are joining me on the whole journey – not just for the first week in May!
Like you might have seen yesterday in my Project Life Tuesday post, this past Friday I got my shots for the trip. Here are the shots I was told I need to get (according to the CDC):
- Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT) vaccine
- Hep A
- Hep B (three shots)
- Typhoid
The DPT shot hurt like crazy – I was not smiling like I was for the first one (picture below). My arm hurt for five days, and the first couple I couldn’t sleep on that side, hold Elias on that side, or anything! I am a wimp.
I ended up not needing Hep B though, which was a blessing because the series of three is the most costly. When I got there, the doctor asked if I had gotten the shots as a teenager, and I didn’t know (though I figured I did). I looked up my old pediatrician on my iphone, called medical records and learned that I did get them in 1997. That saved us about $100!
What’s hilarious about the situation is that I went to this particular clinic (45 minutes from my house) because their Hep B shots were $120 less than the travel shot providers in Nashville. But being that I didn’t need Hep B, it ended up costing about the same. However, the other clinic closer to my house might not have had me call my pediatrician. It’s hard to say. I guess it was nice to go for a drive?? 🙂
Regardless, I am safe and one step more prepared for my trip!
