Maternity Shoot on Saturday
This Saturday our new friend, Brittany, is going to be doing a maternity shoot for us.
I am really excited, especially since a) we didn’t have one with Elias and b) I don’t ever plan to be pregnant again! 🙂
All my maternity dresses seem to be patterned, so my friend Kristen is letting me borrow this beautiful knee-length pink wrap maternity dress she has (I hope it fits!). I wanted to find a long dress because I have seen that in so many shoots online, but they don’t seem to make long dresses for busty pregnant women.
Doesn’t my friend Mandy look beautiful in the dress she rocked at my shower yesterday? (People wore hats and fascinators to the shower in honor of horse racing season here in the south!)
I’d love you to share any favorite photos/ideas for the shoot. We are going to be doing shots of me, Matthew and me and us with Elias, so there will be a lot to choose from.
Hooray for photo shoots!
For some ideas, go to this photographer’s website and look around at her maternity photos. It is located under the newbies gallery.

Get a regular sized maxi dress and have it altered if it’s too long. You should be able to find one that will fit your tummy and bust. And you can wear it all summer too.
Great idea, but the shoot is this Saturday! I don’t think I could get it turned around that fast. Plus, I looked for a maxi dress last year all summer and never found one that worked with my chest – and that is before I was pregnant and several sizes larger! 🙂
Another photographer’s site to check out for inspiration is http://www.libertytreephotography.com – she’s come up with some lovely shots with her clients to capture the beauty of pregnancy and the excitement of everyone involved 🙂
I did a maternity shoot when pregnant with my 2d daughter. My oldest was 2 at the time. One of my favorite pictures is of the two of us sitting on the ground, my belly is naked (I wore a black button-down shirt, so it was opened at the bottom to expose my baby belly). We are looking at each other and her hand is on my belly – she has the cutest smile on her face. I had it printed in black & white. It’s my favorite. My other favorite part is that my hands were able to cover the ginormous (yep – it’s a word) stretch marks my daughters so lovingly bestowed upon me. 🙂
My former co-worker and a friend I sometimes help with shoots has a few of his wife here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.164422753595079.27068.164155743621780
My absolute fave ever is the one with the nametag on the belly!
If you don’t mind to get a little messy, do a paint your belly series with finger paint. I shot one of my best friends for both of her pregnancies. For the first one, her husband did the finger painting on her belly. She was in all black. For the second, we let her daughter paint her belly as well as her husband. It was a great and fun session.
Just a fun thing to think about….

Jessica,
I like to pray before my photo shoots for creative ideas. Our Abba Father is soooo creative! On my website under Lifestyle Portraits are some maternity photos I’ve taken. You might find some ideas. I haven’t tried this yet, but hope to soon. Capturing a few silhouettes would be fun. Try it! Perhaps try a photo with the wife and the husband silhouetted as they face each other and then add one of the siblings as a part of the photo. Have fun and have a blessed birth and baby!

My friend has a really cute photo of her husband behind her with his arms around her belly and their son (then 2 yo) in front of her facing her with his arms stretched around her belly, so together they’re hugging around her belly.
