An Amazing Dad
When I first fell in love with him, it was his honesty that captured my heart.
His love for the Lord.
His ability to really listen.
His wisdom.
His sense of humor.
But three months shy of our seven year anniversary, my love for him has deepened in so many ways. Each day, I fall in love again as I watch him be Daddy to our kids.
He is an amazing dad.
When Elias is being “three”, melting down for no reason, Matthew is on his knees talking with Elias, patiently loving and reprimanding at the same time.
Tenderly, when I am in tears, exhausted from 2 am feedings and a crying baby, he wraps his arms around me and takes the baby girl, then sends me off to nap.
On sunny days he blows bubbles, draws with chalk, and swims in the pool, making memories to last a lifetime.
And as the day ends, he wrestles, tickles and runs down the hallway, chasing our home’s little super hero – and then makes sweet videos like this one, talking about going to “bah-ivia” to help the poor.
I love how wildly Matthew has embraces fatherhood. When I take time to really ponder the specialness of that gift, it takes my breath away.
Written today as we prepare to be apart until August 9 – the kids and I are going to WI, as he travels to Bolivia with World Vision.
Aw, I love this so much. I can see all that in Matthew, and I feel the same way about my husband too 🙂
Having a great husband that makes a great dad too is a wonderful feeling! Safe travels to you both 🙂
Jessica – great post today about Matthew…he seems like a wonderful husband & father. It’s so awesome to see Elias and his whole personality because I think I’ve been reading your blog/following your story since about the time he was born (and I watched that hilarious video of Angie & Matthew in the hospital) – to see him yelling about airplanes, hello, goodbye – it’s just all really cute. Have a wonderful & safe trip to visit your family! Can’t wait to see your project life pictures from the trip! 🙂 All the best!
I hear you may be going to see Sara if possible while you’re out of town. Please give her a big hug for me!
Wonderful post!
Wishing you safe travels, and lots of fun with your family! Can’t wait to see pics! 🙂 If Elias needs a place to run, our swingset and kids would be happy to have him (and you all) over!!
Jessica, It would be wonderful to get to meet you as well as your dh. Hopefully that will happen one day in the future. Have a wonderful time with your family and those two precious, beautiful little ones.
I love the way Elias mimics Matthew at the end with “Bye, guys” … too cute!
He’s a good man!
Oh Jess! I just love the ending when Elias says ‘Bye Guys’ too!!!
i love this, jess… i love that you love *each other* so well.
Love the ending when Elias says “bye guys”. Sounds exactly like Matthew. So cute!
So sweet. I am praying for all of those going to Bolivia. Praying you enjoy your time with your family.
