Motherhood Monday: Motherhood is Brave
Last week, Matthew and I had the pleasure to going to a charity event for Porter’s Call. (We have been trying to have more date nights – they are so important!) It was an evening of stories featuring Vince Gill, Andy Gullahorn and Nichole Nordeman.
Y’all, I LOVE Nichole, and we are honored to call her a friend. It was such a pleasure to get to see her perform, especially because it was the first time she has performed on a stage in a few years. (She took some time off to be a full-time mama.)
As phenomenal as Vince and Andy are, Nichole was why we were there and she did not disappoint. (Not surprising, I know.)
One of the songs she sang was her hit, Brave. Before singing it, she shared a story about hosting a baby shower for a dear friend. At the shower, someone commented to Nichole that the mama-to-be was so brave for embarking on motherhood and totally changing her life.
That really struck me – the idea of bravery and motherhood.
Motherhood is brave, isn’t it?
So today I want to encourage you – wherever you are. If you stay at home or work outside the home full time or something in-between- you are BRAVE.
Take a few minutes to listen to Nichole singing this song and reflect on the beauty of your bravery.

I just LOVE Nichole! So neat you know her personally! That event sounds awesome, girlie! Love that song, too! Have a great Monday!
My girlfriends joke about “Pregnancy Ashley” because my communication tended to be a little more “unfiltered” than usual while I was expecting–we’ll chalk that up to the hormones. Sometimes I still want to tap into that bravery to actually say what I mean!
But I think you’re so right that motherhood is brave. I find myself so much more easily motivated to make tough decisions because my sweet little one is dependent on me than I ever was before she came along.
I love Nichole Nordeman too. Incredible voice.
I voted again. Good luck.
I love Nichole’s song writing ability as much as her voice. Her lyrics are among my favorite. Listened to this song twice today – thanks for the reminder to pull out her CD. I voted – best of luck.
