  1. Your experience with letting her cry mirrored my own with our little girl. I sat in the next room and cried the whole time she cried, but within 2 days she was sleeping just fine. It was hard at the time, but a little crying for a few day was worth the years of sleep to follow. I am trying to remind myself of that now that she’s almost 3 and fighting bedtime again!

  2. What a sweetie! My 12 month old is learning to sleep through the night right now! I had a similar discussion with my pediatrician and had to be more firm! It is so hard!

  3. What a gorgeous smile! Did you make her headband?

Thanks for this post. We’ve got a lot in common, with a nearly-3-year-old and a 5 month old (named Adele!) in our house, also trying to share the same room.

Okay, and actually, I haven’t begun trying that yet, because we first have to do another round of sleep therapy for our toddler before we can figure out how to go about night-weaning the baby. So the baby’s still in our room. Waking twice a night, on average (on the other hand, our son is learning to put himself to sleep and stay that way all night, and that’s pretty awesome).

So thanks for the witness; I need to believe there’s hope for sleeping, room-sharing kids!

  4. My daughter never crawled… She scooted. She got really fast at it! She could cross a room before you could turn around! It was pretty funny to watch. 🙂

  5. Oh I am so glad she is sleeping through the night for you! It’s so hard. That’s why I kept my son in our room for so long because I didn’t want him to wake the girls, then I had to bunk the girls up in order for him to be alone so they wouldn’t be woken up by his cries. Now our middle one is waking up with nightmares. Always different seasons right?
I hope you get some good sleep now and lots of rest 😉 and she is such a doll!!

  6. Hi Jessica,
She is an absolute sweetheart. I love this age–so much personality in such a little body! My second daughter, Elysia, is a couple weeks younger than Adeline, and we are having such fun.
Quick question, if you have time and don’t mind. When Adeline had to cry to sleep, was it at the beginning of the night, or when she woke up in the middle of it? Elysia goes to sleep just fine but wakes up 3.5-4 hours later, and then a couple hours after that, and a couple hours after that…and this weary Mama’s just wondering if a new approach would bring any relief 🙂

    1. Your Elysia is like my Adeline. Adeline would often fall asleep while nursing and I would put her to bed asleep. Then she would start the cycle of waking up every 2-3 hours crying, wanting to nurse, etc. Our pediatrician (who is amazing!) said to get her to wake up before putting her in bed so she would learn to fall asleep in her bed on her own. She would fuss a little, but not much. Then we let her cry when she woke up. And, our pediatrician said that if she woke up again, let her cry again. Thankfully, the one long cry was it that night. 🙂 She wore herself out I think. I hope that helps!!

  7. I just found your site through a friend’s referral. Love it! And I have my own sweet Adeline! Our little one is 5 1/2 months. Your little gal is so cute!!

  8. What a cute little girl!!! She is gorgeous. =)

I just discovered your blog, and I love it! We have a LOT in common. My daughter is 11 months old, and my husband and I lived in Nashville for three years, where I worked in marketing and PR for a healthcare organization. Parallel lives, perhaps? Glad to have found your blog… it’s very cute!
