Guest Post: Project Life Tuesday

Hi, I’m Kayla Aimee. I’m a twenty-something scrapbooking stay-at-home mom to my sweet girl Scarlette. Also, I really love alliteration. I live in Georgia with my husband and spend my days doing way too much laundry and blogging at Only Slightly Neurotic. I met Jess when I lived in Tennessee and my heart still pines for Nashville music and really good farmer’s markets.

Currently 95% of my scrapbooking supplies are packed away in the basement waiting for me to finish renovating the space into a play/craft room. So in order to stay on top of my project life album most of my pages are digi + paper.

I downloaded this free template of the Design F page protector and used digital paper, elements and photos to create the base of my layout, leaving some space to add in physical embellishments later.

Then I cut the template down so there were two 3×4 spaces side by side and printed them as 4×6 photos. Since I used the Design C page protectors last week, for the first page I just stuck 4×6 photos into the back of that page protector, leaving the white space around the photos so that it would mimic the look of the Design F style.

Then I trimmed the 4×6’s down to 3×4’s for the second page and put them into a Design F page protector. Here is what it looks like as a two page spread:

I’ve developed a bit of a formula for my project life pages and I’ve come to find that keeping a few elements on each page the same helps to make my album feel cohesive and cuts down on my scrapbooking time, because I’m not mulling over the placement of a bunch of items. For example, I typically use a series of photos that span across both pages to tie them together.

I also put the majority of my journaling + the date on the lefthand block for each week. I keep the style of journaling the same and just vary the look of the date. On this page I printed off a status update that I had posted on twitter and then cut + pasted it over top of a journaling card that I customized.

I also added the print-out from our weekly Tuesday trip to the library. Probably I should have returned our books before I cut up the receipt telling me what is due back when. I’m pretty sure Project Life just cost me thirty cents in overdue fees.

It’s a really hard job playing princess, y’all. Sometimes you need a little nap in the middle of it. Also, please ignore the random stray dog hairs on my layout. Scarlette and Lucy Dog decided to engage in a game of chase across my project life pages as I was precariously balanced on the sofa attempting to take these pictures. It did not end well for me.

I love the Design F template because it makes it easy to include so many details. Because Scarlette was born so prematurely, feeding therapy is a big part of our lives and this week we had to make a food list of things that she can/will eat so I made a little card to include that. I also added in the tags from her new therapy feeding tools + the cute new lunchbox I bought. Also, someone ate all of that oreo pudding and forgot to leave any for their significant other. And by “someone” I definitely mean me. It was worth it.

Scarlette is obsessed with the baby board book version of Pride & Prejudice right now. Obviously my child is a genius. Or she is just like every other woman in the world and has developed a slight crush on Mister Darcy. She’ll be watching Downton Abbey with me in no time. Anyhow, I photographed a page from her book to include with the picture of her reading it.

I also included some pictures of our bedtime routine in a fake photostrip (you can download the photostrip template + tutorial here.) And a picture of her rocking chair, because my baby is getting molars and so pretty much that is where I spent the majority of our week. Molars are the devil.

I created two 3×4 quote cards to include with the week – one with the lyrics from a song that I sing to her at bedtime and the other with a quote from Pride & Prejudice that relates to all reading that goes on in this house. The cursive font I am using is CK Cursive. For a long time I added in my own handwriting but while I am a big fan of personal touches, I’m a bigger fan of not stressing about Project Life. My perfectionist tendencies can weigh this down for me and that is the opposite of my goal for this project. So doing as much of the layout as possible in digital format and adding in just a few tangible items for memory keeping + dimension is super helpful at keeping it simple while still documenting all of my baby girl’s little “growing up” moments.
