A New iPad App Worth Downloading
Elias gets about 30 minutes to play on the iPad every night.
I am constantly looking for games that are both engaging and educational.
Stella and Sam, Pixel and Parker, Tally Tots are some of my favorites – and his too.
This week we added a new game called Leo’s Pad to our list. If you have little ones 4-7, you gotta check this free app out. I downloaded it on Sunday and it consistently has been the first app Elias goes to every day since.
The colors and design is really incredible – think the dimension of a Pixar movie. I honestly cannot believe an app of this quality is free.
Each appisode tells a story (like a little show) and integrates play into it. For instance, in the first one, Elias had to find the silly dragon Cinder, paint a birthday card, build a telescope, count the clouds he flew through and more. It also ends with a cute little song.
The graphics and games are really creative.
I guess because the app is so new, they must still be working out a few kinks because on the interactive activities the screen sometimes goes totally black. This frustrated Elias, but I’m hoping they will release an update soon to fix this. I don’t think this is a reason not to download the app though.
Unlike any game I have ever downloaded for the iPad, Leo’s Pad has a Parent Dashboard which gives parents insight into what their child is learning when they play the game. Things like color recognition, motor control, patience, shape recognition, etc. will be recorded. (It says that the dashboard is coming soon, which I am super excited about.)
Right now the app has one “appisode” available called Gally’s Birthday. Every day Elias has asked if the next one is available yet. We are still working on patience – too bad the dashboard can’t record Elias asking me that question every day – ha! 🙂
What are your kids’ favorite iPad apps? Do they wear pirate hats when they play too? {grin}
AWESOME! Thanks for sharing this news. Our 4 years old girl loves iPad. Started when she was around 10 months old, she used to play baby Apps (flash cards, sounds, animal, alphabets and numbers) with our first generation iPod, and then when she turned 2 years old, she didn’t want to play with iPod anymore, she wanted bigger screen and cooler {grin} LOL!
She used to share with me but when I won a new iPad on a contest, she got to play with my iPad1 and these are her favorite apps right now is iBook, Starfall ABCs, all Dr. Seuss’s books, LeapFrog Apps, Park Math, Dragon & Wolf, Art & Music Coloring, KidsDoodle, Crayola Pad, Pirate School (Jake and the Neverland Pirate), My Little Pony, Harbor Master, Robot Lab, Toca Band, Fairy Tales, Toca Train, Fish Hooks, Water? and for Christmas she loves Charlie Brown and There Is A Star.
So many great recommendations to check out – thank you! I think you will really love Leos Pad, along with the others I mentioned.
It looks like the first appisode is FREE but the next (and probably continuing appisodes) are $1.99. Are you buying the others as they become available? Will the first appisode keep them busy for quite awhile? Looks like great animation!!
I think it depends on how you define “quite awhile”. 🙂 We will definitely buy at least two more.
Will sound like a fuddy duddy here, but I have a concern about the amount of radiation that children get today , day in day out using all these techy things so close to their little bodies. They start so young (most of us were much older, and radiation is cumulative) and there are no long term studies done in this area. Added to TV, phones, microwaves, laptops, not to mention dental, medical and mammogram xrays, there is a lot of radiation in our environment. Just a thought.
This looks so cute! Love fun interactive story apps! Going to check it out for sure.
Good day! I could have sworn I’ve been to this web site before but after looking at some of the posts I realized it’s
new to me. Anyhow, I’m certainly pleased I discovered it and I’ll be
book-marking it and checking back often!
