Project Life Tuesday: Week 17
Welcome to Project Life Tuesday 2013 If you are new to The Mom Creative, welcome. I hope you will stay awhile. I’m Jessica – wife to Matthew, mom to Elias, a silly and spirited four-year-old, and Adeline, a spunky one-year-old. I’m also a marketing professional, savvy deal finder, photo lover and memory keeper trying to juggle it all.
Each Tuesday, I share my most recent spread as well as host a linky for readers to link up their pictures/layouts. Some links are affiliate links.
I had great intentions of catching all the way on Project Life this weekend, but I worked on some other projects instead. Thankfully, I had completed most of Week 17 last weekend, so I’m sharing that today!
Week 17 is actually the last week in my first of three Project Life albums for the year. I decided to divide things up into three albums because last year I used two and really felt like I overstuffed my albums. My plan is to do January – April, May – August and September – December.
Week 17: April 21-27
Pages used: Design A , 6 x 12, 5 x 7 Horizontal, Design H (out of stock)
I had a lot of inserts for this week, so I kept things very simple in terms of embellishing.
The first page is all photos from Sunday, while I was in Salt Lake City (exploring with my friend Lisa Leonard. BTW you gotta check out her Father’s Day/Graduation and Teacher collections. SO pretty.) and Matthew was home with the kids. I just used one journaling card from the Jade kit.
One of the photos Matthew took of Adeline, I decided to enlarge to a 7×5. I added a Dear Lizzy “life” tag to the photo. I slightly inked the edges of the tag so that it would pop slightly off the photo, as well as added a bow to the top. I love it.
On the back of the 7×5 insert, I enlarged a photo I took of Elias with our Insect Lore Live Butterfly Garden. As a side note, we loved this science project. Highly recommend if you have young kids. Elias and Adeline loved watching the caterpillars grow, create cocoons and emerge as butterflies.
My next insert has photos from our Nashville (in)RL event, as well as the kids playing together. I used a journaling card to write about (in)RL and then a label on the kids photo. Again, nothing fancy. Just keeping things simple.
On the backside are photos from the kids’ school and more butterfly pictures.
In the 6×12 insert, I enlarged two photos from when we released the butterflies. I was disappointed that the color turned out a bit orange, but that’s okay. Every photo in your album doesn’t have to be perfect. 🙂 I decided not to add any embellishments to the photos because I didn’t want to distract from the images.
On the last page, I essentially divided the page into two columns. The left column is more photos from releasing the butterflies and the right column is other random photos from the week.
New Products
Have any of you scored Project Life goodies at Hobby Lobby? If you have, I’m jealous. As of yesterday, my Hobby Lobby didn’t have anything else. I’m especially excited to get my hands on the seasons and holidays mini kits.
I did get a craft fix this weekend though when I was at Michaels. While I was there, I saw some new items that would be perfect in a Project Life album. Because I love y’all so much I made a few quick videos to show you the Recollections and Mambi products that I found. I also wanted to share the new Me & My Big Ideas Pocket Pages line, but unfortunately my video didn’t record right. Yes, I looked like a fool at Michaels talking at my iPhone. Yes, people were looking at me. But that’s okay. It was worth it. 🙂
Project Life posts worth checking out
In case you missed it last week, be sure to check out the Phone Photography Project class. It is going to be incredible + have tons of tips and inspiration for you to kick up your phone photos a few notches. It’s on sale for a limited time.
Check out Brooke Peterman’s Project Life art journal. SO cool and different.
Love the simplicity of Sonya’s pages and Every Hour’s pages. Both are great reminders that you don’t have to get fancy to tell your story and have pretty pages.
Your turn to link up! Also, just a friendly reminder to please remember to link back to The Mom Creative in your posts. Thank you!
love the photo of the butterfly project. My son’s daycare is doing those in each classroom and the kids just love it!
Love those butterfly photos, especially the ones of the kids with the butterflies on their chest! Thanks for the inspiration!
I love the tiny insert with the tag and photo of your daughter! I think it’s so neat to have different sized inserts in the album – makes it a really interesting journey for anyone who picks up the album.
I will admit a small addiction to the MAMBI card packs at Michael’s… I’ve bought 3 of them so far, and used a few this week. I love the designs and sayings on nearly all of them (and the few I don’t love, my 3yo is happy to use in her “crafting”).
I am desperately trying to convince myself I *don’t* need a trip to Hobby Lobby this morning…
Yeah, I am going to need that same convincing. The one good thing is that Hobby Lobby is a good 40 minutes from me…
Us too, which makes it the perfect “take the baby while the big girl is at preschool” trip. I held off today, though 🙂
I absolutely love the Mambi Pocket pages … I’m using them for my mini albums (soccer for my son, a school edition, etc.)
Fun! I love the idea of doing mini albums with those pages. They are certainly cost effective.
That black and white shot is so precious. I love the added tag.
I was super excited to see products that would work with PL on my last trip to Michaels. Not that I need ANY more supplies.
You and me both, sister! I had to resist buying the journaling cards. I do NOT need more of those.
I went to Michaels today. The only 3×4 or 4×6 Recollections journaling card packets that the staff were familiar with were ones that were part of their Creative Chaos line which they had moved to clearance and I didn’t see anything left so I don’t know if it’s the same product that you shared on your video. Any more specifics you can give on the Recollections Tablets you saw? Thanks!
The ones I saw were in the aisle with the 12×12 cardstock. They were not on clearance. Hope this helps.
First of all, I ♥ that picture you took of the SLC temple spire. Isn’t it such a gorgeous building? I love Temple Square.
Second, are you talking about the new “Pocket Pages themed cards” at Michaels?

I bought FOUR different packs last week and am LOVING them for Project Life. SO FUN!
Third, thank you SO SO SO MUCH for hosting PL Tuesday on your blog every week and letting us post here. You’re FAB-U-LOUS!
