A Meaningful Gift + Awesome Sale
Have you ever seen those children’s recordable storybooks by Hallmark? I have always assumed that they were cool, but probably complicated to record. Plus, the $29.95 price point was a bit expensive in my opinion.
Well, DaySpring (which is the faith division of Hallmark) offered to send me a few to try out + offer y’all at stellar deal, which of course I said yes to! You know how I love books and deals. (Be sure to read to the end of this post, because the coupon code is AMAZING.)
Today I am giddy to share this with you.
First, a little about these storybooks . I had some sent to my in-laws in Maryland (who are in their late 60s/early 70s) and a few sent to my family in Wisconsin (ranging in age from mid-50s to my grandma, who is 87). When I went home to visit my new nephew, I showed the book I Love You Head to Toe to my grandma and asked if she would want to record a story for my kids. I said that we could do it together, thinking I would really need to help her.
Nope, it was so easy, I basically just sat there.
All you do is open the little battery case, push the button to record, page by page.
If you aren’t satisfied with a page, you can rerecord just that page (not the whole book!). Once you complete the book, you slide a button to lock it so that little two-year-olds won’t try to rerecord anything (not that I would have experience with that).
Once we finished recording it, my family gathered up to listen to Gigi’s story. Everyone loved it – from Adeline to my Uncle John. It was so cool seeing my family sitting together, listening to my grandmother’s voice reading a story about how much she loves my kids.
Adeline and Elias wanted to read the book several more times with Gigi.
A few weeks later a box arrived from Maryland. In it were the three books (All Day Long with Jesus, The Tale of Three Trees and The Birth of Jesus) that my in-laws recorded for the kids.
Y’all, my kids sat for an hour reading/listening to those books over and over again. Honestly, it made me tear up because they only see their grandparents a few times a year, making those books incredible treasures. The kids call them their MawMaw and PawPaw books. Plus, because the books are by DaySpring, the truths of scripture are woven into the stories.
Now, the deal.

Great sale! We have one already and it’s such a nice personalized gift idea. I got two more with the sale. Thank you!
THANK YOU! I wish I had known about these before my dad passed away, but I just purchased 5 so that my kids’ remaining grandparents and great-grandparents can record them books for Christmas this year! What a precious gift!
This was an awesome deal! Thank you so much for sharing. I love that you are so willing to share these deals with your readers. I just bought a bunch of books for my kids and my niece (who lives far away) for Christmas. I also was able to get a couple of nice teacher gifts too. Thankyouthankyouthankyou!
My MIL brought the Goodnight Moon version when she came to visit so my daughters – 3 and 5 – could read it for my son, 15 months. He LOVES being able to hear their voices when they’re at school and it makes me smile to know we have this amazing keepsake.
I will definitely be taking advantage of this deal. My sister bought one of these books last year–I think it was the Bedtime Prayers book–and had my grandparents record in it while she was home with her husband and brand-new baby at Christmas. My grandpa passed away in Februray, and while she hasn’t been able to bring herself to listen to his passage yet, she is so thankful to have it.
My grandmother sent my daughter one last year for Christmas (who coincidently we also call Gigi) which she loved. I need to figure out where it ended up after our last move. I will probably take advantage of this sale and have my mom’s parents also do ones for my kids. Thanks!
Anybody have an idea how long the recordings would hold up?
I would think they would hold up forever. They run off of batteries.
Thanks so much! Just had a baby in May and my inlaws are far away. This is perfect – thanks!
I don’t have it in the finances to buy one of these right now, but I do get one from Hallmark every year. My husband was deported to Mexico in 2011 and can’t celebrate the holidays with our kids here in the US. So every year we buy one of these books, he records it via Skype, and the kids get a story read to them by Daddy for Christmas. It really helps dealing with the distance.
I’m so sorry about your husband. I can’t imagine how challenging that is. Praying for you.
Thank you. It can be difficult and challenging at times, but we’ve adapted and we visit often. Thank you for your prayers and sharing this awesome deal so others can have similar experiences in keeping touch with their loved ones.
Love this !!! Thank you for sharing !!!
Thanks so much! We are moving overseas in the spring so this is PERFECT!
Thank you! These are perfect gifts for our grandchildren. HUGE savings – I ordered 6! I’m thrilled.
You are very welcome! It thrills me to help others in this way.
Thanks so much for sharing this awesome deal with us. Great thoughtful Christmas gifts for grandbabies, nieces, and nephews. What a blessing!
Thanks again!
I’m so glad!
With the Dayspring deal, am eager to buy some recordable books as gifts. As I require international shipping, may I know how heavy these books are on average or at least for the ones you have on hand. I suppose I will be entitled to the discounts as long as I enter the code STORYBOOK70 (even though I’m an overseas buyer)?
Cheers, Viv
I don’t have a specific weight, but I can say that they are surprisingly light. My recommendation would be to put one in your cart and proceed to check out so you can see what shipping will be. The coupon will still work, yes.
Thks for the suggestion, will do that.
