January Reading Recap
Despite the absolute insanity of this month and the hours I have worked, I still managed to fit some reading in. Reading does my soul so good. Does it do the same for you?
Chasing Superwoman: A Working Mom’s Adventures in Life and Faith: I was really excited to read this book because like the author, I work full-time. Unfortunately, it wasn’t really what I was expecting and I didn’t love the author’s writing style. She referred to many people in the book with adjectives (ie: devoted mommy, serious sally) and I found it incredibly distracting. That said, I did relate to many of her stories.
Chasing God – It was a pleasure to read my friend Angie’s book. Her Christian journey of discovering what means to follow God vs. chasing Him is one I could relate to in a lot of ways. A wonderful book!
Hands Free Mama: A Guide to Putting Down the Phone, Burning the To-Do List, and Letting Go of Perfection to Grasp What Really Matters!: I rarely preorder books, but this was one that I did. I knew I would resonate with Rachel’s message and I definitely did. Her style is very approachable, and not one of guilt. I loved, loved, loved this book. Matthew and I had recently decided to be hands free from 6-8 each night (no computers or phones) and this book affirmed our decision even more. A must-read for parents today.
New Books on My Shelf
This is a big book release month. Check out these new reads that I have sitting on my nightstand:
You’re Going to Be Okay: Encouraging Truth Your Heart Needs to Hear, Especially on the Hard Days: I love Holley’s writing style. She writes like the friend she is – tender, kind and honest. Can’t wait to read her latest book.
The Antelope in the Living Room: The Real Story of Two People Sharing One Life: Melanie’s latest book promises to be funny and endearing.
The Storm Inside: Trade the Chaos of How You Feel for the Truth of Who You Are: I am currently reading this book and it is fantastic. I think any woman would be inspired by Sheila’s words.
Notes from a Blue Bike: The Art of Living Intentionally in a Chaotic World: I have mentioned it before and I’ll say it again- Tsh’s new book is fantastic. I read it this fall and think I am going to read it again because her message resonated with me so much. I especially love that it has really short, digestible chapters that make it perfect when you just have a few minutes to read.
The Study Bible for Women: This isn’t a traditional book, but the most important on my nightstand. I recently received this bible from Lifeway and it is incredible. I have really been enjoying all the study notes and additional information to the text.

What did you read in January?
I am back on the reading train…I read 2 stellar books in January…
The Dead Don’t Dance by Charles Martin
Burning Sky by Lori Benton
I really love your reading lists and enjoyed ‘Chasing Superwoman’ – so funny and refreshing in a world of mom judgment. Also, I was excited to see your husbands book in our church bookstore here in Minneapolis @ Christ Presbyterian!
Great books! Just added to my wish list! I’m reading The Antelope in the Living Room right now and love it. I have LOL’d each time I’ve opened the book.
Awesome!
