Introducing Throwback Thursday Stories
I have a big idea that I hope y’all are going to love and participate in.
As a memory keeper and writer, I value recording life’s stories. But this habit is something that has only developed in recently years, especially since forming my Project Life habit. While I have always been an avid photographer, I usually didn’t record more than “prom 1999” or something like that. I didn’t write about how I felt, the story behind the photo, etc.
My guess is you can probably relate.
We all have 1000s of photos just waiting for the stories to be recorded. The popular “Throwback Thursday” on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. encourages people to share old photos. My feeds are full of photos of 80s hair and tiny babies every week. But typically, we don’t go deeper than that.
Until now.
Starting this coming Thursday, April 16 and every Thursday thereafter you are invited to share your Throwback Thursday Story. The concept is very simple.
- Post an old photo to your blog and then write the story behind it. The story can be as long or as short as you want.
- Then come here and link-up on Thursday!
- On Instagram, Facebook and/or Twitter, tag the image #TBTstories.
It is my hope that this will gain momentum and that as a community we will begin to get down stories from our past – from the summer lemonade stands to vacations of a lifetime. Your story matters.
Imagine if you do this every week! You’ll record 52 stories that previously resided only in your memory. Getting these stories down is valuable and important. It is a tangible way to leave a legacy.
I’m still formulating my own approach. I think I am going to do a mix of my childhood-college days and old photos that have been passed down to me. It is going to be fun, inspiring and easy because there is no right or wrong way to do it.
Please join me this coming Thursday for the first ever Throwback Thursday Stories link-up.
I’m so excited and hope you are too. If you are on Twitter, please consider tweeting to help spread the word:
Tweet: Do you do #tbt on Thursdays? If so, join @jessicanturner for the new #tbtStories launching this week. http://ctt.ec/GM6D3+
Also, here’s a cute little graphic for you to use in your post
I love this idea! I have been thinking the same thing about sharing the photos, but not the story behind them. Can’t wait to read all the stories on Thursday!
Thanks so much! I hope you will join in!
Love this idea. I’ve been wanting to go a bit deeper on my blog than current mommy stuff, and stories and memories are a great place to start. There’s an awkward social moment from sixth grade that comes back to me every time I travel to a conference for work. I think that will be a timely story to start with. I’m glad you’re doing this. Hope Disney was a blast!
It was amazing. I can’t wait to share all about it.
Hope you’ll join in on Thursday.
Jessica!
I so love this! I’ve been a scrapbooker for over 20 years now and my pictures/journaling have been gradually going the way of “beach” or “happy 13th birthday” – there’s alot more to it! – thanks for doing this! – I am so hoping I can find (make?) time to participate!!!
xo
I hope you can too! I think it is going to be really fun.
fantastic idea!!! i love the idea of telling stories behind photos. at one point i was pointing old objects because of story behind it. i can’t wait for thursday
me either!
I absolutely LOVE this idea! Can’t wait!
Jess, this is driving me nuts. I totally recognize that girl in the top right hand corner of that photo and I cannot place her for the life of me. Clearly, this was a photo from our UW days, but I just KNOW that I know that girl. Do you know if she lived in Bradley at all? Ugh, it’s going to annoy me.
P.S. Just wrote my first #tbt post just for you. 😉
No, I don’t think she did. Her name is Gina and she was a year or two younger than me.
I know I knew her!! That’s going to drive me nuts.
Love it! Working on my post right now.:)
What a brilliant idea, Jess! I hope I can join in – life’s a little crazy just now, but I’ll try.
Jessica,
This series has inspired me to congeal an idea for a blog post that’s been mulling around in my head.
Working on it now! 🙂
Thanks!
Thank you for hosting this really fun series! I posted my #TBTStory on my blog. I am surprised at how sentimental that made me. Geesh…I hope I can get through next week’s post lol!
What a great idea! Shared our story on Twitter, Facebook, and G +! Love this!
