Our Halloween Costumes for 2014: Things that Fly
With being pregnant this year and our family having an insane amount of travel in the next 6 weeks (Matthew is going out of the country twice + has a conference and I have two conferences), I knew that this was not going to be a year of handmade costumes for our kids.
Recognizing your limits is such an important part of motherhood, isn’t it?
So when Chasing Fireflies reached out to me to see if our family would like to review their costumes, I was IN.
Each year since becoming a mom I have longingly paged through their Chasing Fireflies Halloween costume catalog. Without question, they offer some of the most beautiful and elaborate costumes available for children. Their designs, fabrics and offerings are unlike any costumes I have ever seen.
Last year I think Elias looked at their catalog almost every day of October. I have never seen a child like a catalog as much as he liked that one.
This year, his reaction was the same, and Adeline was just as tickled. They LOVE paging through the catalog and talking about all the beautiful costumes.
I giggled when after school Elias said to Adeline, “Hey Adeline! Let’s look at the costumes!”
After much deliberation, they decided they would both be things that fly.
From the girls Halloween costumes, Adeline chose a beautiful purple butterfly costume with fanciful wings attached to her sleeves. She literally shrieked with delight when I pulled it out of the box, and rightfully so. It is stunning.
She calls herself a princess butterfly, which sounds about right to me.
Of course, Elias wanted to be something fierce and chose a bronze dragon. The costume is incredible, with wings made of a thick rubbery material, clawed gloves for his hands and feet and a removable tail.
I also love that the costume is two pieces, making it easy for Elias to put on – and take off if he has to go to the bathroom.
Without question, Chasing Fireflies costumes are an investment and not a fit for everyone’s budget, but the quality is undeniable. The costumes we received are not made of that flimsy material that tears at the school Halloween party. I know my kids will be wearing these costumes for dress-up play long after Halloween.
I noticed that Chasing Fireflies costumes (at least the ones we looked at) run even sizing, so for Adeline I ordered a 4 and for Elias I ordered a 6. (Adeline wears a 3T and Elias wears a 5T/5). By ordering a size up, that also helped to ensure these costumes will be enjoyed by my children for awhile.
So if you are looking for the highest quality costumes available in designs that no one else offers, definitely check out Chasing Fireflies. I know you won’t be disappointed.
Disclosure: Chasing Fireflies sent these costumes to me for review. All thoughts are my own.
I love that Elias looks at Chasing Fireflies every day – I swear I LOOK AT it every day. Their costumes have always intrigued me – so beautifully crafted. Not a year goes by that I don’t try to convince Delaney to do a Mother-Daughter duo of some kind. The costumes are so lovely, so whimsical. Your children look dynamite. I know you started off saying you need to know your limits, my friend, but these look like perfect options to me – I firmly believe in doing what makes your kids happy (and stylish and amazing) for Halloween. Well done.
Next year when I am not pregnant I would love to do a mother-daughter duo. You and your daughter would be smashing! Thanks for your encouragement.
I LOVE those costumes, especially the dragon. It’s so realistic – much better than you can just buy off the shelf at a Halloween shop.
Seriously, the dragon mask and wings are INCREDIBLE. I have never seen anything like them in stores.
I know this is about the costumes, but dang, you make the cutest kids
These costumes are beautiful!! I absolutely love them. It makes me wish my kids were small again and I could make them wear what I want for Halloween- ha! xoxo
You are the sweetest. I think they are pretty darn cute too. Chasing Fireflies has so many options- I think Adeline wanted about 20 of the costumes.
Those are too cute!
Your kiddos are adorable. This is a strange request, but I found your page by doing a google search for this particular Halloween costume, because, my 7 yr old has his hopes set high to be the demon dragon this year. I can’t find the costume anywhere! Sold out on Chasing Fireflies & I’ve exhausted all measures. So, being the crazy mom I am, I’m searching and searching. Is there any chance your son is finished with the costume and would like to sell??? If so, we would be VERY interested, thank you!!!!!
