A Lesson Our Children Need
Today when you turn on the news, images of violence, hopelessness and despair assault our senses. Parenting is a challenge, as we work to combat these negative messages by teaching our children biblical truths.
One of the foundational truths I want my children to know is that they are lights and have the power to shine brightly in this world. Matthew and I strive to teach their young hearts this powerful message through words and actions.
Chances are, if you are a parent or a grandparent, you also desire to teach your children this important lesson of shining brightly and making a positive impact.
Today we are delighted to introduce a book to you that has been three years in the making – a children’s book we have self-published called God Made Light. This book is a fantastic resource for affirming the message of light with your children. It is available on Amazon with free prime shipping, or on Dayspring.com.
Y’all. It is SUCH a beautiful book – both in message and in art.
Let me give you a little backstory.
We read 1-5 children’s books every night with Elias and Adeline, and we own several hundred children’s books. Books are our family’s thing. But one thing we have come to realize is that many children’s books aren’t that great. And when it comes to Christian children’s books, the pickings are even slimmer.
So Matthew set out to write a book that taught biblical truth in an accessible way for children and that was as fun to read as Green Eggs and Ham or Llama Llama Red Pajama.
And he did it. God Made Light has the cadence of Dr. Seuss mixed with biblical truth. It’s one of those children’s books you want to read again and again.
To be completely frank with you, God Made Light is one of the best children’s books I’ve ever read. I don’t say that because my husband wrote it, either. But I believe deeply that this project has been blessed with special favor and that each of you are going to love it.
In God Made Light, Matthew takes children on a rhyming tour of all the beautiful ways light makes up our days, all the while teaching that the light of God also lives in the child.
The book ends with these words:
Shimmer and shine;
be a beacon so bright –
’cause when God made you, child, God made light.
I still get choked up proclaiming those truths over Elias and Adeline when we read the book at night. It is such a profound message to instill in our children.
We have invested a good chunk of our savings into getting the book illustrated, designed and printed because we believe deeply in this project. And today is the big day when we are releasing it to the world.
Would you consider purchasing a copy of God Made Light? And if you are able to, buy more than one copy. Help us get this message out to children across the country.
Buy one for your niece or nephew
Buy one for your daycare or school library
Buy one for your neighbor
Buy one to keep on hand for when a friend has a baby
Additionally, we partnered with Dayspring to develop some beautiful products that go with the book – encouragement notes that are perfect for lunch boxes, a sweet nightlight and a beautiful floor puzzle. (I will be sharing more about these products tomorrow.)
You are going to love this book. Your children are going to love it.
Thank you for standing with us in belief that light is a message our children need.
So excited about your new book. I ordered 3 copies for Christmas gifts. Can’t wait to get them.

Congrats to your whole family. It looks beautiful! Can you please post if you hear of it becoming available on amazon.ca? Would love to pick up a copy! 🙂
Hi Andrea and Kristen, because of us self-publishing and distributing through Amazon ourselves, at this time it won’t be on amazon.ca. However, I believe DaySpring DOES ship to Canada, so you could get it through them. Thank you!
It’s just beautiful Jess. Love everything about the story as well as the story behind the story. So excited for you guys!
It is, quite simply, such a treasure. The pictures of your children with the book perfect illustrate the joy it gives. Congratulations to you all. xoxo
This is so awesome and I’m so happy for you both. I can’t wait to get mine!
I would absolutely love to add this to my 22mth olds book collection. Every month we add a new book to his growing library. We go to the library every week as well to check books out. We read in the morning when he wakes up, and before bedtime. However that never stops him because we still read throughout the day! He absolutely loves books. So I would most definitely give this to my little one.
I would give this book as a gift to my three daughters. We love reading together and this would make a great addition to our library.
