60% Off: The Non-Toy Gift of the Year for Kids Ages 3-16
I don’t know if it is that I have entered the nesting phase of pregnancy or just have a strong desire for less toys and less stuff, but this year especially, I am all about buying Christmas gifts that are experiences, stimulate creativity and just won’t be in at the bottom of the toy chest in six months.
Without question, my favorite non-toy gift for Christmas this year is craft crates from Kiwi Crate, and this week only you can get them for 60% off with the code HOLIDAY60. Be sure to select the “get it” option for the code to work. (Sale ends December 2, 2014.)
That is just $7.95 for a one-month subscription, which is a steal!
What is especially awesome is that Kiwi Crate (which we have subscribed to for nearly 3 years) is one of FOUR different crates now available. So literally, if you have a child to buy for from ages 3-16, there’s a crate for you.
Koala Crate: A craft crate for the littlest ones, Koala Crate is geared for children ages 3-4. I would definitely say it could go down to 2.5. We just got the first crate for Adeline and she loved, loved, loved getting her own crate made just for her (see picture above).
Kiwi Crate This is the original craft crate, geared toward ages 4-8. We started getting this crate just before Elias’s 4th birthday, and he has never stopped loving it. I’m not exaggerating when I say it is one of our family’s favorite things every. single. month. We really, really loved Kiwi Crate. My nephew turned 6 today, and I ordered him a crate for his birthday!
Doodle Crate: Another new crate, this time for girls in the 9-16 range. These crafts are geared toward the older girl that they can enjoy and do on their own. My friend Betsy subscribed for her daughter, and she loved her first crate. (Click here to watch a video of her talking about her crate and demonstrating the crafts. Pictured above are the cute pouches she made. I especially love the pom poms!). I am planning to order my twin nieces (age 10) each a crate for Christmas because you can’t beat the $7.95 price!
Tinker Crate The last of the new crates, this is a crate for kids ages 9-14, and frankly, they look amazing. Each month, the crates are packed with fun, hands-on experiments for the science, engineering and technology loving kid. Elias already asked when he would be old enough to get a Tinker Crate – ha!
I am very, very picky about subscription services, especially for kids, and I am frugal with our spending. With having a blog called The Mom Creative, you can imagine I receive a lot of pitches and samples. And at the end of the day, I compare them all to the Kiwi Crate family – and don’t feature most of them. These kits are incredibly high quality, well-planned, creative, and just all around fantastic. They are worth the subscription price every single month.
Don’t you love Adeline’s proud face over her happy banner that she made from her Koala Crate?
I’m serious. You won’t be disappointed. And at just $7.95 for a full-crate (which includes shipping) this is the BEST time of year to try Koala Crate, Kiwi Crate, Doodle Crate and/or Tinker Crate.
So buy one or two for your family and/or for your loved ones this Christmas. We won’t see a better deal this season than 60% off! (Don’t forget to enter your coupon code HOLIDAY60 for the discount.)
Happy making!

Thanks for posting this! I had no idea that they had kits for older kids. My daughter is 9 and my son is about to turn 12 and I thought they were too old for this, but thanks to you I now know differently! I ordered one for each! I too, am looking for more experiential gifts this holiday season. Happy Holidays.
I’m not getting the code to work on a 1-month subscription.
Cindy, it worked for me on the Tinker Crate and the Doodle Crate. I had to select “Get it” I think instead of “Gift it”.
Yes, I didn’t have a problem either. You do need to click get it. 🙂 Hope that helps!
SUCH a great idea! I love it!
Will they come shipped to my house and then I can give them as a gift or do they ship directly to the recipient and I just gibe a card that says they’ll get a box?
I think you could do either. My recommendation would be to ship right to the recipient since the $7.95 includes free shipping.
We got our first tinker crate almost a month ago! So cool. My boys were tiring of the Kiwi crates, but at 8 and 6 the tinker crate is a bigger challenge and a good project to do together. I no longer get two, and hope that it encourages cooperation to complete the projects. 🙂
Is this available in Canada?
Hi Irene, right now just Kiwi Crate is available in Canada. Hope this helps!
Thanks for sharing, I love these kinds of gifts and deals! FYI, this discount is only good for your first month regardless of how long of a subscription you choose. Thought I could get a 6 month membership at a 60% discount, but it only took the discount off the first month. I’m usually slow with this stuff, so in case there are others like me I thought I would share 😉
Yes, it for the first month’s subscription. Thank you for pointing that out! So glad you were able to take advantage of the deal.
Hi Jessjca,
My kids are in the same age group and I’m wondering if you know if people get 2 boxes, 1 per child or do the boxes have enough in them for the kids to share? Thanks!
People do a variety of things. For our family, we would just share the Kiwi Crate. Some projects lend themselves to being better for sharing, while others definitely do not. They do offer a sibling add-on, which is also an option! I think two crates would probably be overkill. I would recommend trying the single crate for a few months, and if the sharing isn’t going well, doing the add on.
Thank-you!
