Thanksgiving Treat: Pirate’s Booty Turkey Snacks

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just a week away, isn’t it? This month is FLYING by! While Matthew was out of the country, the kids and I came up with a fun Thanksgiving treat, the perfect snack at school or for a family gathering.

We were sent a huge box of Pirate’s Booty (every kids’ favorite snack) to use for our Thanksgiving snack! I immediately thought of doing a twist on the traditional handprint turkey using food service gloves.

Food and supplies you’ll need to make your Pirate’s Booty Turkey Snacks

• Pirates Booty
• M&Ms
• Disposable Food Preparation Gloves
• Assorted pipe cleaners
• Wiggle eyes (with adhesive on back, if possible)
• Orange foam (with adhesive on back, if possible)

Steps to make your Pirates Booty Turkey Snacks

• Fill the fingers about 1/3 of the way with M&Ms. We used fall colors, but use whatever you have.
• Then fill the gloves with Pirates Booty, being careful not to overstuff. My kids loved helping with this part!

• • Using an orange pipe cleaner, close the bottom of the bag, then bed the ends of the pipe cleaner to look like turkey feet.
  • Wrap pipe cleaners around the four fingers to look like feathers.

• Wrap a red pipe cleaner at the base of the neck to look like a gobble.
• Affix and eye and the beak to the thumb for the turkey face. (We always have foam stickers around, so I just cut an orange one in the shape of a beak. The adhesive made it really easy to attach.)

I would recommend buying small gloves! We had large ones and it took a lot of Pirate’s Booty to fill the bags.

With having young kids, I am always looking for teachable moments to talk about thankfulness, and the Thanksgiving season provides that in abundance. While we were making this Thanksgiving treat, we talked about who we could give them to to show gratitude. We decided to keep two for the kids and give the other two to Adeline’s teachers.

Teachers are such a blessing and thanking them at unexpected times – like during the month of Thanksgiving – is always appreciated!
