Star Wars Bedroom: A Little Boy’s Dream
I’m so pleased to share Elias’s Star Wars bedroom today.
When we bought the house two and a half years ago, the walls were covered in wallpaper, with a duck border. Here’s a crummy photo I found from before we moved in (shudder).
Awful, and not exactly a little boy’s dream room – ha!
When we asked Elias what kind of room he wanted, he immediately said, “STAR WARS!”
Pottery Barn has an exclusive line of Star Wars bedding. It is amazing, but was a bit expensive, so I told Elias that if he wanted it, he needed to ask for Pottery Barn Kids gift cards to offset the cost.
He excitedly agreed and for his 5th birthday he received a bunch of Pottery Barn gift cards to buy the bedding. (This was a great teaching moment for him too – sometimes you have to save for the big things you want!)
However, the plan was that Elias would get our queen bed (so that his room could be a guest room when people visit), so he had to wait until we bought our new bedroom set.
Elias is such a kind, patient child and didn’t fuss that he had to wait a bit longer for us to start his Star Wars bedroom. In the meantime, we dreamed together of the room, pinning other rooms on Pinterest (see my Star Wars bedroom board here), looking at ideas on Etsy, etc. It’s hard to believe that just two months shy of his 7th birthday and we finally got it finished!
The Paint
This past fall we finally bought our bedroom set, so Elias got the big bed and we were ready to do the big room make over. We stripped the wallpaper and painted the room. We decided on a midnight blue for the focal wall and then a light blue grey for the other three walls.
The Star Wars Bedding
Elias selected the now discontinued Pottery Barn Darth Vader and Storm Trooper bedding. I found a navy bedskirt at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Then we added the Stars Wars Itty Bitty collection that Hallmark sent us as a gift. Elias ADORES having all the characters.
The Star Wars Decals
We bought two massive Star Wars wall decals on Etsy to really make the room pop. We couldn’t be more pleased with how they turned out!
If you want to do something similar, keep in mind that size matters. They are pricey (Darth was $84 + shipping), but if you are going to be looking at them every day, make sure you are going to love them by buying a big enough size.
The Darth Vader is 72” and the words are 42” (similar ones found here). I had no idea how difficult it would be to put up such a large decal. It took several hours for my mom and me to adhere them. (The Darth Vader was three pieces.)
But they were worth it!
We also added a red light-up lightsaber to the Darth decal and a green one above the room’s light switch plate. The decal doesn’t have a light saber on it, so this three-dimensional addition is really awesome.
Elias also received some small Star Wars Wall Decals, which we put along the molding near his door. This was a fun easy project for him to do.
The Reading Corner
Next to the bookshelf we added a fluffy black bean bag and a GIANT Darth Vader Itty Bitty that Hallmark also sent to Elias when they heard we were doing a Star Wars bedroom. Elias made a “Reading Corner” sign and added some Star Wars stickers to it. That sign just melts my heart.
Other Star Wars Decorations
Other decorations included:
- An earth/space ceiling fan that Elias picked out at Home Depot.
- A big Chewbaca poster in-between the two windows.
- Movie poster replica tins from Zulily
- A big cast of characters art from Hobby Lobby
- A giant toy Darth Vader
- Darth Vader knobs for the dresser and night stand from Pottery Barn
The levitating Death Star bluetooth speaker is our latest fun addition to the room.
Elias simply adores his Star Wars bedroom, and I have to admit, I think it is pretty awesome too.

What a fun room! You are inspiring me to finish decorating my boys room! It doesn’t need much. I just have to get those few little projects completed and hung. Thanks for sharing!!
Fun fact – all the Star Wars bedding is 20% off today in honor of May the Fourth!
Yes, I saw that too!
Adorable room! My daughter and I love the itty bitty from Hallmark. So cute.
I do not see a single Jar Jar Binks in the spread, and this is how I know that you are my people.
You are hilarious. 🙂
What a cute room! LOVE it! Those Itty Bitty toys are SO adorable! I just went to the Hallmark site and is it bad that I want them ALL? LOL! 😉
You did such an amazing job! I adore the light saber 3-D effect on the decal. That was so smart. I love the Star Wars Bedding collection from Pottery Barn Kids. I’m a store manager for PBK and I’ve always loved that they did Star Wars in such a chic yet fun way. I love seeing rooms like this because it inspires my designs for the store. Awesome!
I love the room. My son wants a Star Wars bedroom too. How I’d you mount the light sabers?
They come with a little mount for the wall! 🙂
Hi I was wondering if you remember what dark blue paint you used for the accent wall in the Star Wars room?
Did you find out the color?
The room looks amazing. I wanted to let you know that I am featuring this in a boys bedroom roundup if you don’t mind.
Hi there,
I love your room!
What paint color & brand did you use for the accent wall & light gray on other walls please?
Thanks,
Rose
