5 Ways I Use My Mornings Well
Mornings have always been my time. Ever since I was a young girl, I would wake up early to finish a project or read. As I got older, my mornings looked different (no more homework), but that didn’t stop me from continuing to use those early hours for me. As I share in the video below, after having kids, I really recommitted to maximizing those early hours well.
By investing in my passions and being intentional about those morning hours, my day is set up right. Morning fringe hours are my favorite!
5 Ways To Use Mornings Well
Plan for my time: Most days I have 60 minutes before Ezra wakes up, so I need to have a game plan in mind. Each night I think about what I want to accomplish the next morning. It might be a blog post I want to write, email I want to respond to or some photos that I want to shoot. Whatever that is, I wake up with a game plan.
Prepare for the next day: If possible, I try to do things like have my pump and bottles ready to go, fill out any permission slips, etc. so I am not running around like crazy in the morning. Of course, this doesn’t always happen, but when it does, my morning runs smoother and I am able to use those early hours well.
Start with quiet time: This is something I have not always been good at, but I have been using the first minutes of my day to read a devotional and pray. This quiet time helps increase my faith and prepare my heart for the day ahead.
Don’t do chores during my me time: That first hour is all about me and doing things that I can’t do when the rest of my family is not awake. For instance, I don’t do dishes or fold laundry because that can be done when the kids are up and playing – and I can’t write. So that first hour is dedicated to the things only I can do during quiet.
Be realistic: Sometimes I will wake up and be overly ambitious. When this happens, the rails fall off the track and the mornings end up being stressful. I have learned to be efficient with my time, but not overdo it.
I know these things sound simple, but they make all the difference to having an awesome morning and day!

An early-morning run is the best way for me to start the day. But, since I’m a teacher and have to leave for work at 6:30, morning runs are only possible during summer break.
