A Must-Read Memoir for Moms
I began scrapbooking in 2004, right around the time I met Matthew. This was the start of the big scrapbooking boom. I went to conferences, participated in challenges and got to know like-minded memory keepers, many who are still friends today.
One of those friends is Kayla Aimee. We met when she worked at the now (sadly) defunct SisTV. We both were passionate about scrapbooking and blogging – a match made in heaven.
I remember talking with her about how much she wanted to be a mama, and I prayed God would give her that gift. Needless to say, when she announced her pregnancy, I was over the moon.
But then, that excitement turned to prayers for life — Kayla went into labor at just 24 weeks. When her daughter Scarlette was born at 25 weeks, I wasn’t sure the tiny baby would make it. I braced myself for the worst. My sister, a postpartum nurse at the time, said it might not turn out well.
Thankfully, we were wrong. The weeks in the NICU turned into months and Scarlette was growing – even thriving. A few weeks after she was born I sent Kayla a giant fortune cookie with words of love and congratulations.
When I told Matthew that I had sent the gift, he said, “but what if she dies?” I said resolutely, “she won’t.”
Now Scarlette is a happy, healthy 4-year-old. Kayla and I are closer than ever, bonding over blogging, motherhood, Target shopping and book writing.
We never imagined the last item, but this is the year we both had books release. Kayla’s first book, Anchored: Finding Hope in the Unexpected officially releases tomorrow. I don’t love most book trailers, but this one made me cry:
After reading an early release, I wrote these words for an endorsement:
All mothers will relate to Kayla Aimee’s fierce love of her daughter in this must-read memoir. Her writing is the perfect blend of passion, grace and humor that had me laughing and crying throughout the book.
Anchored is a quick, beautiful read that I know you will love. If you order it today (June 30) you will also receive TWO free gifts including an exclusive e-book called Hold Tight written by Kayla Aimee and featuring contributors Courtney DeFeo, Jessie Weaver, Christin Ditchfield, Dawn Camp, Kristi James, Joanne Kraft, Michaela Evanow, Molly Huggins and me AND your choice of a physical print from the 3 options below from talented artist, Jessalyn Bray at Flax and Wool Designs!
All you have to do is purchase the book (you can pre-order a signed copy here or find it to pre-order at these major retailers!) and then attach a picture of your receipt here. This is such an incredible deal. The print alone is totally worth the price of the book. Don’t miss this gift.
I’ll never forget you telling me about Scarlette…and then closing following her journey! Such a strong beautiful little girl she is!
