Our Summer Bucket List
This is the first summer we created a Summer Bucket List. Though I have seen the phenomenon in social media over the past few years, this was the first year that the kids seemed old enough to really get it.
We had so much fun making our list at the beginning of the season and now the kids are eager to check things off the big poster. Our list is pretty ordinary – go to the pool, have a lemonade stand, throw water balloons – the kinds of activities that summers are made of.
We also have allowed for plenty of room for Elias and Adeline’s imaginations to run wild. They have played with the hose “we’re pretending we’re plants and need watering, mommy”, romped through the woods, floated in a creek and caught fireflies. We’ve gone on a picnic and spent long afternoons at the park.
In past years, I would have seen that bucket list as something I had to do to ensure my kids had a great summer. But that’s not the case this year. Instead, it has been a catalyst for doing fun activities when the “I’m bored, mommy” cries start.
For all of this adventuring, I always have two things with me – water bottles and snacks. Recently I bought some Horizon Snacks at the grocery store.
I am big on packaging our own snacks to save money. Usually I just open a box of snacks and make a bunch of snack ziplocks at one time. That way, they are ready to go when we are!
My kids loved them this past week when they were playing outside. Adeline proclaimed, “these are delicious!” She then proceeded to feed her brother, which they both found hysterical. Aren’t 4 and 7 fun ages?
It’s hard to believe that in Nashville we have just a few weeks left of summer vacation. As the weeks are winding down, I am being extra intentional about savoring this special season. There’s something so magical about summer. I remember it being my favorite time of year as a child, and I hope my child look back on it with the same fondness.
How have you made memories with your kids this summer?

Looks like a whole bucket load of fun, and THEN SOME! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jessica! I am contemplating a return to full time work and you give me hope that our family can still experience the kind of fun and simple joys I have tried to create as a stay at home Mom. Can you share how you squeezed in all this fun….weekends? Evenings? Took some days off? Thanks and bless you for the encoragement!
