Sisterhood, Motherhood and Learning Together
This weekend my family and I were in Wisconsin to celebrate my grandma’s 90th birthday. It is always fun to go home because my sister, Melissa has young kids too. Landon just turned 2 and Bradley is 6 months. Yep! We had babies just a month apart. Here they are at about 2 and 3 months old.
My sister and I are very close, and we talk every day. We compare notes about how things are going, how much milk we are getting when we pump, what the boys are doing, what their dispositions are like, etc. One challenge that Melissa faced in those early months is that Bradley was very colicky. Colic affects approximately one in five infants born in the United States- about one million new babies annually.
We googled remedies, asked friends and tried over-the-counter options. I wish we had known to try Colief Infant Digestive Aid, which is added to the baby’s milk. Colief, which is available at Walgreens or online helps reduce colic-associated crying time caused by temporary lactose intolerance (TLI) in infants — it could have been just what Bradley needed. (Check out their YouTube channel for more info.) Thankfully he has grown out of it. It is amazing how things change in just a few months! Look how much they have changed in just 4 months.
Of course we took lots of pictures this weekend with the kids – especially the boys. With Ezra being my third and last baby, I feel like I have been especially intentional about taking pictures and documenting those big and small moments.
I haven’t scrapbooked much this past year, but I am starting to get back into my rhythm of documenting. I want to record our family’s story. My hands slipping photos and cards in pockets is a familiar feeling that I love.
Kids grow so fast and that growth seems especially profound in the baby stage. I’m really thankful to be experiencing this stage at the same time as my sister and navigate motherhood together. It isn’t something I ever expected, especially with her marrying five years after me, so it is a real gift.
