DIY: Fall Decorative Photo Blocks
These decorative photo blocks are so quick and easy to make. Burlap and lace are two of my favorite combinations. When Elmer’s approached me to create a DIY home decor project, I knew I wanted to do something with my burlap stash (still left over from Elias’s pirate party two years ago).
I found some plain wood blocks at Target (I have also seen these at craft stores) and was inspired to make some simple DIY photo blocks.
This project came together very quickly and turned out amazing. These would make great, affordable gifts this Christmas season.
- Wood blocks
- Elmer’s Enhanced Safety Glue Gun (available at Michaels)
- Elmer’s CraftBond hot glue (available at Michaels)
- Burlap
- Lace
- Scissors
- Large clips for photos (I found my gold clips at Target)
I made two different blocks. For the one on the right, I simply wrapped alarge piece of burlap around the block. I hot glued the edges as I went using my Elmer’s CraftBond glue gun and hot glue. I then cut a square for the top and used lace to hide the imperfect edges. Lastly, I hot glued the clip in the center of the block for my photo.
The other block was a bit more involved. I cut strips of burlap to go around my block, and alternated gluing the burlap strips and the lace.
On the second side of the block, I used the hot glue to attach my oversized gold clip, then wrapped the burlap around it. The completed block turned out darling! I can also see using green and red lace to make a Christmas version.
I definitely noticed a difference hot gluing with this new Elmer’s CraftBond hot glue because it literally creates none of the stringy mess that is normally created with hot glue. The glue comes out cleanly and exactly where you want it to go. I don’t think I will ever buy another kind of hot glue again (it works with any glue gun).
I hope this project inspires you to make some photo blocks for your home, office or as gifts. They are so easy!
