Generic or Name-Brand Test: Kid Chores with Swiffer
She totally posed like that on her own.
As our kids are getting older, we are trying to be consistent with teaching them the value of work and helping to keep our home tidy.
I will be honest – we are definitely a work in progress.
Two full-time working parents + three little kids = lots of chaos. However, I am beginning to notice little changes in Elias and Adeline. I am having to remind them less often about taking their dishes to the kitchen, picking up their clothes, etc.
Equal to their grumbling, I see them take pride when a job is done well. I have found that giving them tools to do their work well is important – whether that is small containers for their crayons and markers or quality cleaning supplies that get the job done.
A tool that the kids have been loving lately is our Swiffer. Our lower level of our home is all hardwoods and tile, which means lots of dust and dirt. We are always using our Swiffer vac and wet jet to clean the floors. Since Ezra is still crawling, we are extra diligent about cleaning on a regular basis. Elias and Adeline love to help with this chore.
Swiffer sent me some store brand and Swiffer brand pads to use on my Swiffer products and test which did the job better.
As you can see from the photos, it was no comparison (the Swiffer pad/sheet are the bottom of each photo). We used the store brands on the floor first and then went over the same spot with the Swiffer. Both the wet jet pads and the dry sheets got even more dirt than the store brand – and we had already gone over the floor with the store brand!
It’s incredible to me that the Sweeper Dry Sheets trap & lock up to 4X more dirt, dust & hair than the leading store brand dry cloths over total life of cloth. WetJet Pads have a more absorbent core than leading store mopping pads and absorb up to 2X more.
I am all for saving money, but not at the expense of quality – and honestly, you don’t end up saving money if the products don’t work as well!
Also, Elias and Adeline LOVE to use the Swiffer vac, and I like knowing that the product is going to work really well since, let’s be honest, they are kids and not always super detail-oriented when it comes to cleaning.
These photos of Adeline Swiffering our floor in the living room cracked me up. She was singing, dancing and having a grand time while getting her chores done – and trust me, that was NOT because I was taking her photo. Swiffering behind her back was a favorite. 🙂
What kinds of chores do your young children do at home? Do they like to Swiffer?
This post was part of a sponsored campaign with Swiffer. All dirt and love for the products are my own!
Wow! That is a big difference. We love our Swiffer Wet Jet and I’ll definitely make sure I buy the name brand from now on.
I love this! My youngest actually loves to still clean (he’s now 9). Pushing the Swiffer around is one of his favorite things to do!
We are so obsessed with Swiffer in my household that the kids fight over who gets to Swiffer. We actually had to give days to each kid. LOL.
We have the swifter vac too and absolutely love the concept but find you have to replace it often as the older it gets the less the charge lasts and we can barely get a room finished before it dies! We still have our swifter vac but have just discovered Norwex products and love cleaning our house without chemicals!
We LOVE our traditional Swiffer (don’t have the wet vac), but the small people love it – you know Coop and Delaney are a little older than your sweet ones, but this is EXACTLY how we started with them around the house – and they took the same level of pride in a job well done. I love to see, not only how they help, but how well the Swiffer fits your life. Great job, my friend!
We just had a gaggle of girls at our house baking 300 treats to raise money for my daughter’s high school track team. I almost had a nervous breakdown looking at all that frosting and flour all over the floor. Then my daughter pulled out the swifter and it all magically got clean! We love our swifter!
We loyal Swiffer users, but I never thought to hand it over to the kiddos. GENIUS!
We are that is…Long day. Haha!
The boys love to use the Swiffer in our house. Actually, it’s a really easy chore for them to help me with and I love that about it. I love this post!!
We love Swiffer – its one of the few products that I never buy the store brand for! With three kids and a very hairy dog, I don’t even like to think about what it grabs off our floors!
We LIVE AND DIE by this tool! Kids help out around the house and they think it’s FUN. I call that a win.
Jessica! This post is so interesting to me–I’ve TRIED to go store brand, and it just does not make sense. Swiffer is THAT much better. . .
And? The only chore my kids argue about? Who gets to Swiffer. Not. Even. Kidding.
Oh my gosh, she is so cute. I love to Swiffer. I only wish I had more wood floors. Ha!
We love the Swiffer. It’s all we have at our beach house and boy does it work great. Love seeing your little one use it. I need to get my teen boys to do it more!
She is soooo adorable. What a wonderful little helper you have.
We’re Swiffer fans too!
