Slow Down: The Heartsong of Every Mom
I say to my kids all the time, “stop growing! Can’t you just slow down a little bit?”
They giggle and laugh and say “noooooo mommy! I want to get big! I’m going to be bigger than you.”
At 5’0″ tall, I sure hope they will be.
When I first heard Nichole Nordeman’s song Slow Down last summer, it was immediately my favorite on her album The Unmaking.
Matthew became friends with Nichole early in her career (he used to be the editor-in-chief at a music magazine called CCM) and we were both thrilled when the album released.
She reached out to us in the fall asking if we had some videos of our children that we could send for a lyric video they were working on for Slow Down.
Of course, we happily sent a few, including a clip of my grandma with her two youngest great-grandchildren, Ezra and Bradley (my nephew).
When Nichole messaged us the link to the video last week, I bawled.
The video has now been viewed more than 14 million views and its no wonder why.
Slow down is a feeling we all have as mothers. Our children grow so quickly, blossoming before our eyes. If you haven’t seen it, take a few minutes to watch it below. And be sure you to have some tissues nearby.
Oh my goodness, I watched this video twice on Wednesday and cried ugly tears. There were a few parts that really tugged at my heart strings and one was of the clip of your grandma with the babies. Loved it!
I just saw this video and completely recognized your kids! I had not seen this blog post, and I kept thinking … “I can’t believe Jessica didn’t say anything about this!” Such a beautiful song and sure to be a classic … and how cool that your kids are in the video!
