What it’s Like on a Disney Set: Behind-the-Scenes of BIZAARDVARK
Though my kids still primarily watch Disney Junior, I know that those days (especially for Elias) are numbered.
During my Disney press trip earlier this month, I was grateful to visit the set of a new Disney show Bizaardvark. Seeing an episode and talking with the cast encouraged me about the programming available for older children.
The show centers around two tween girls, Paige and Frankie, who are Vuuugle (like YouTube) stars, the creative music videos they create and a few other friends who also create online content. Their online channel is called Bizaardvark.
Over lunch, we previewed the sitcom’s first episode, and I was really inspired by the programming, which celebrates kids’ unique gifts and creativity. It’s not about kids staring at screens, but about being collaborative and trying new things. I love that!
After the screening, we had a cast Q&A with with Olivia Rodrigo (“Paige Olvera”), Madison Hu (“Frankie Wong”), Jake Paul (“Dirk Mann”), DeVore Ledridge (“Amelia Duckworth”) and Ethan Wacker (“Bernard ‘Bernie’ Schotz”). The cast was professional, articulate and delightful (more on the interviews coming soon!).
Following the interview, we took some group photos.
We then toured the set. It was just like what you see on television – rooms fully furnished, but missing walls and with lots of props and lights.
I especially loved seeing all the props that were housed around the set. Adeline could have definitely used a few of those hair bows!
We also watched a brief rehearsal.
Check out the opening video, which gives you a great sense of the style and the girls’ talent.
The show premieres tomorrow, June 24 on Disney XD. I think it is going to be a big hit for kids, especially in the 9-13 range.
Disclosure: I was invited by Disney on an all-expense paid trip to LA for a press trip. All thoughts are my own. Some photos by Ruth of Viva Veltoro.
