A New Gallery Wall and Tips for Printing on Wood
The site that I use to print the most prints for my home is Photo Barn. I literally have their stuff in every room of my house, especially on my gallery wall.
They often run crazy freebies, which is how I have gotten the majority of the prints. The above photo is of a new gallery wall I made celebrating Matthew’s world travels with National Geographic and World Vision. The 8×8 wood prints were all free and are all from Photo Barn. Other elements on the wall include a map from DaySpring, a canvas print from Hobby Lobby and assorted knick knacks from countries Matthew has visited. I still want to add a few more things to it, but I love how it has already come together.
My favorite part of the wall is the 8×8 wood prints. I love, love, love the look of photos printed on wood and have been extremely pleased with the more than two dozen products I have ordered from Photo Barn over the years. Here’s a close-up so you can see the amazing wood grain that shows through the images.
Right now Photo Barn is running a promotion for a free 8×10 print, which is something they have NEVER offered before, so I am REALLY excited. Simply use this link and enter the code FREE8x10WP. I think I might order a print to put in that 8×10 frame you see above. The prints are only 1/8″ thick and very lightweight, making them perfect for framing. You can also pay a small additional fee to add a stand to your order.
Additional prints are $9 and this offer ends September 14. Keep an eye on their site though because they’re always offering amazing deals.
Here are some tips for printing on wood & for using Photo Barn:
- Don’t print black and white images: Unless your images have a ton of contrast, you will not be happy with them. The wood soaks the white right in and they never turn out like I hope.
- Do order prints with vivid colors: The reason why the photos on our gallery wall look so amazing (literally the best I have ever ordered from Photo Barn) is that I selected the photos that had the most amazing colors. I even increased the color depth on some of the images before submitting them to print. Bright colors work best and will result in stunning wood prints.
- Remember, you will see wood grain: The charm of printing on wood is that the wood grain will come through, especially in light colors, so pay attention to that when selecting photos. Photo Barn’s site will give you a preview of the grain too.
- Use wood prints on a gallery wall: Gallery walls look best when they have a variety of texture and styles on them. Adding wood prints from Photo Barn is a great way to add dimension and diversity to your gallery wall. Every gallery wall in my home has wood prints from Photo Barn on them.
- Wood prints make great gifts: Wood is not a common photo print medium, which means photo products from Photo Barn always delight gift recipients. I have given them as Christmas gifts, Grandparents’ Day gifts, wedding gifts and more.
- Sign up for Photo Barn emails: They are constantly sending out great promotions, so be sure to sign up for their email list.
- Shipping is usually around $10, which might seem steep, but given the quality of the products (and the fact that you are getting them for free), it is totally worth it. Typically you can use a coupon more than once, you just have to place a separate order each time, but sometimes it is cheaper to pay outright for additional prints. For instance, with the free 8×10 promo, you only pay the $10 shipping once, so if you wanted 3 prints, it would be best to get your first free, and pay the additional $9 for the subsequent prints. Make sense?
I know you are going to love their quality! It’s my go-to for unique and beautiful prints for my home.
Disclosure: Compensated affiliate link used in post, but genuine love of Photo Barn products is all my own.
I love the way you mounted them on the wall for more depth! Did you glue them to thicker pieces of wood with a hanger on the back? Thanks for the tips on choosing a photo, too. Need to go through my phone and experiment a bit
This is actually the style of those boards! They are cool, aren’t they?!
Love these! Unfortunately the cheapest option for shipping to Canada was like $36 for one! Hopefully I can find something similar here or they’ll find a cheaper shipping option in the near future 🙂
