It’s Here! When God Made You
Every day we read to our kids – stories about princesses and knights, cats in hats and wild things.
And while those stories and magical and fun, few of them really speak to the core of who a child is — and even less include who they are to God. This is one of the many reasons why Matthew wrote his new children’s book, When God Made You.
This affirming book is a gift for families. Through its words, you’ll find yourself talking with your kids about their gifts, their passions, and the world around them.
So be you- fully you – a show-stopping revue. Live your life in full color, every tiny, every hue. Discover. Explore! Have faith but love more. And learn and relearn all that God made you for.
When God Made You also opens a door to talk about God and how He cares about our children as individuals.
Out of billions of faces from cultures, all races, people God made, from all different places, God knew your name. Your picture is frame. God’s family without you would not be the same.
This book is as stunning visually as the words are poignant. I have paged through it countless times and feel like I still discover new details in the incredible illustrations by David Catrow.
I especially love that an African American girl is featured because, frankly, we need books that reflect the diversity of the world we live in. Check out this piece from No Time for Flashcards, which cites this research:
According to the Cooperative Children’s Book Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015 of the roughly 3400 children’s books published 14.9% were about a non-white character, the breakdown looked like this; 7.9% African American, 1.2% American Indian or First Nations, 3.3% Asian Pacifics/ Asian Pacific Americans, and only 2.4% Latino. Compare those numbers to the racial statistics of children in the United States, where 48% of children are not white, and you can see there is a serious gap in representation.
When God Made You is a love letter to your kids. It is a book you will read again and again. You’ll want to give it for Easter, for baby gifts, for birthdays. This is a book your kids will remember reading with you because of the conversations you’ll have.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I know you are going to love it. And, at $8.96 you can’t beat the low price!
