10 Ways to Save Money on Audible

Becoming an Audible member was a life-changing habit for me. I now read more books than ever and find that I am using my fringe hours doing more of what I love.
Because I love to listen to audiobooks AND save money, I’m constantly looking for affordable ways to add to my audio book library. Here are 10 helpful tips for saving money on Audible.
10 Ways to Save Money on Audible
Try Audible for free and get two free books
This is a simple one. If you don’t have an audible account, you can try it for free and get two free audiobooks. You have nothing to lose – and you might end up like me and become a convert for life. If you don’t know where to begin, a few favorite audiobooks I like to recommend include:
Buy Kindle deals and add the Audible option
Another great way to get affordable audible books is to add the Whispersync option when buying Kindle deals. Here’s how it works:
- A Kindle book goes on sale. The book above is on sale for $1.99.
- Amazon gives you the Whispersync option to add the audio book for a discounted price when you buy the Kindle book. As you can see, it is just $3.99 in the example above.
- You buy both the Kindle and the audiobook for one low price.
Whispersync allows you to seamlessly go back and forth between reading the Kindle version and listening to the audio version of the book.
I often will buy a kindle book for $1.99 – $2.99, then add the audio book for $2.99 or $3.99. Getting both versions for $5 – $7 is a great price. Modern Mrs. Darcy posts kindle deals every day and always includes the audio book price, so this is a useful way to find some deals.
Check your current Kindle books for Whispersync options
This is a great trick! Often, only a Kindle version of a book will be on sale, so I will just buy that book. But later, the deal for Whispersync becomes available.
To check for current deals, go here, sign into your Amazon account, and Amazon will scan your current Kindle library for any audiobook upgrades available. I tend to upgrade when the price is $3.99 or less.
Pay attention to daily deals and special sales
Audible offers many, many deals! Visit the site daily to see what offers are available. A different book goes on sale every day, and they will often do special sales like their recent two books for the price of one.
Only buy audiobooks with credits that are more than $14.95
Since you are likely paying $14.95 for Audible subscription credits, don’t buy books with credits that are under this price point.
Use your rollover credits
Depending on the plan you have, Audible will let you rollover your credits. However, the number varies depending on the plan.
Add books to your wishlist
Audible will let you know when books on your wishlist are on sale, so be sure to keep your wishlist filled with good books.
Go through the steps to almost cancel your membership
I recently did this myself and it totally worked! You will then be offered a special incentive to stay a member.
To do this, be sure you have used all your credits. Then, go to account settings and then scroll to the bottom to click cancel. You’ll be asked a question about why you’re canceling.
Then the site will give you an offer to try to keep you. For me it was a $20 credit. Easy way to get a free or nearly free book.
Contact Audible’s customer service to get the “Silver” membership
If you find that you are getting more credits than you can use, you can use the call or customer service chat feature to get the Silver membership, which will downgrade your membership to one credit every other month. I was a Gold customer, which provides one credit for a book each month, but found that, because I so often take advantage of Kindle/Whispersync deals, I didn’t need a credit every month.
You cannot change your membership to Silver through the website. You must contact customer service, but it is a quick and easy way to stay an Audible member and save money.
Return an audio book if you don’t like it
You have one-year to return a book that you don’t like, no questions asked. I have returned multiple books in the past eighteen months and never had a problem. Audible will reimburse you in whatever way you paid for the book.
