A Quick Way to Get Money Back
Matthew and I have been doing a lot of cleaning and purging of our home. We have too much stuff and it is overwhelming our home and our life. It feels so good to clear things out!
As I have been doing this, one thing I have noticed is how many unopened, unused items I have that should be returned.
Because I am always running, I have a habit of buying more than I need, with the intent of returning what I don’t use. Or I will buy something in two sizes because I don’t have time to try something in that moment. Or I will buy something for the kids and it just doesn’t work.
If this sounds like you, I want to encourage you to take the time to return those items. Find the receipts or be okay with returning without receipts (and still getting some money back). I have been blown away by how much money we have gotten back simply by me taking care of a bunch of returns.
A few of my recent returns in the past month:
- A bag of Gymboree clothes that didn’t fit or weren’t needed (I missed the return with receipt cut off by two days, but still got store credit)
- A shirt, socks and a skirt to Target that didn’t fit/we didn’t use (thanks to my Target red card, I didn’t need to have a receipt)
- Some health items we got for my surgery at Walgreens that I didn’t use (No receipt, but got a store credit)
- Shoes for Elias and Ezra that didn’t fit, ballet leotards for Adeline that she didn’t need – all from Amazon. Printed return labels and returned (free shipping!)
- Carters pajamas I bought for Ezra, forgot I had (they were in a rubbermaid tote) and then he was too big for them when I found them. Carters will let you return at ANY TIME, as long as the items are tagged. I bought the stuff 6-9 months ago!
- Extra Sesame Street wrapping paper and party favors back to Dollar Tree (store credit, which I used to buy things for Adeline’s party)
I know this isn’t rocket science, but sometimes the simplest tips lead to a-ha moments.
What can you return?
I have been buying a lot more from Amazon lately because the return shipping labels are just so darn easy!
Yes, the labels do make it super easy! I wish they let you combine returns though. I always feel guilty having to send everything separately. 🙂
I so needed this today! I’m heading to Target this morning and I’m grabbing my bag of returns before I head out the door. I always put it off and say I will do it next time. Today is the day!
I always have bags of stuff that I need to return. I get frustrated with myself, because I am like, “Why did I buy this to begin with??” But you are right, It is because I am trying to get ahead of the 8 ball but end up putting myself behind the 8 ball with all the stuff I have to return.
I am happy to know that I am not the only one that does this though!
And you know what, most of the time buying extra does save me a trip. But I don’t want to waste my money by not doing that return!
I’m so glad it encouraged you. 🙂
