Totally Honest Review: Stitch Fix Kids
Anyone else incredulous that school is right around the corner? My kids go back August 7! This weekend I received a DM on Insta from a busy mom wanting to know how to save time and money on school shopping.
One way to save some time is by using the newly launched Stitch Fix Kids for your kids late summer and fall apparel. (Affiliate links used in this post.)
Each Fix includes 8–12 items personalized to each child’s sense of style and interests, and curated to deliver head-to-toe looks, ranging in price from $10–$35 per item.
As a blogger for Stitch Fix, our family received some of the first Kids fixes styled by Stitch Fix, and I ordered second boxes for Elias and Adeline in order to give you a totally honest review. They also provided credit with no stipulations for how much or what I kept for my kids.
What We Loved
New and familiar brands
The fixes included brands we love, like Under Armour and Hanna Andersson, as well as new to us brands. Since Stitch Fix has a $20 styling fee that applies to anything you keep, having trusted brands and the right sizing makes a huge difference. Adeline’s denim dress and shoes came in her first box and clearly she thought she was hot stuff – ha!
Pricing
We received multiple items in the $12-$14 range, which I really appreciated. It is clear that Stitch Fix understands the importance of quality, affordable clothing for kids.
Convenience
With three kids, shopping can be a chore. I loved getting a box of clothes for each of them without having to do any work. Nearly everything fit and it was just so easy. Moreover, Stitch Fix provides prepaid shipping packages to return everything that didn’t work, and it can be picked up by USPS.
I also really appreciated that my kids Stitch Fix accounts are all within my personal Stitch Fix account. No separate log-ins.
25% off option
If you keep your entire box, you will get 25% off. I ended up doing this for the box I got for Ezra, which was awesome.
Fun
My kids LOVED getting a box of clothing. It was fun for them to try everything and get to experience something they have seen Mommy do dozens of times.
Cute extras
The Stitch Fix Kids box is like a big coloring page on the inside, which Adeline was really excited about. She started coloring almost immediately after opening her box. The box also included a sheet of stickers.
What Was a Miss
Pricing
While I loved that our fixes included affordable items, I found some pieces to be pricey or that I could get them cheaper by going directly to a retailer. For instance, Hanna Andersson pieces were all retail price. This is to be expected from a service like Stitch Fix, but Hanna has SO many sales that it makes little sense to buy Hanna from Stitch Fix when you can get it 20-40% off regularly direct from them. I think it is important to communicate your budget with your stylist and give feedback if you don’t want to receive certain brands.
Limited options
I really wanted to get boxes for Elias and Adeline completely dedicated to their school’s standard attire requirement – polos, solid chinos, etc. Despite requests for this two times, Stitch Fix really couldn’t deliver. They sent a very kind note saying that they are still growing their stock and apologizing, but it still was a bummer.
Is It Worth It?
Ultimately, I think yes, if you like Stitch Fix, you will love Stitch Fix Kids. I think it is a great service for busy parents and more affordable than other options out there. I don’t think it is something that we would do every month, but I think it is perfect for seasonal changes, if you have a special need like a photo shoot, and during busy times where you can’t shop for multiple kids. With back to school around the corner, it’s the perfect time to schedule a fix for your kiddos.
Thanks for honest review. I have almost adult kids yet still helpful to read as I had signed up for SF for myself last winter based on your postings. I eventually cancelled because the stylist(s) were not sending items based on my feedback, my requests, my styling survey, nor my pinterest board. I had belief that it would improve month to month ‘cuz it takes a bit to getting of a person’s style so I allowed our relationship building to go for ~ 6 months until I felt it was a one-way conversation.
I still like delivery based services. Not just time-crunched parents benefit from shopping services like SF but also folks like myself that have disabilities, driving issues, or proximity to clothing stores they like.
I can see that SF for kids can help with wide range of challenges of bringing kids to clothing stores and into the try/on rooms. Parents who need to shop with more than 1 child, crowded or small changing rooms, children with disabilities, wheelchairs crutches or medical assist devices, children with conditions that the public may misinterpret as acting out or bad parenting and parents want to save energy for other more important or rewarding activities. Not suggesting that any or all above are reasons not to shop out of the home – cuz the world does need to be enlightened as we all are persons deserving respect and clothing! Again thanks for reviews.
