I read 30-50 fiction books a year. I have always loved great fiction and recommending it to others.
Some books stay with you for months or years after you read them. You might not remember the details of the plot, but you remember how these books made you feel. This is a list of those books for me. Moloka’i: A young girl growing up in Hawaii in the 1890s discovers she has leprosy and is sent away to the secluded island of Moloka’i where she meets friends who become family. A story of resiliency and strength of spirit. Buy at Target or Amazon
I Am Pilgrim: This novel is full of suspense and will keep you on your toes. You won’t want to put this one down. Buy at Target or Amazon
Tom Lake: My favorite fiction book of the year. I loved it so much. Tom Lake is about family, love, and what life is like for parents before having children. Buy at Target or Amazon
The Dutch House: Another great book from Ann Patchett. A story of siblings, inheritance, love and forgiveness. Buy at Target or Amazon
Project Hail Mary: If you loved The Martian, you will love this Andy Weir novel as well. The sole surviving astronaut must figure out how to save the earth and humanity. Buy at Target or Amazon
Lilli De Jong: A young woman finds herself pregnant and giving birth at an institution for unwed mothers. Lilli shares her story through her diary about the resilience and incredible strength of mothers. Buy at Amazon
The Kitchen House: The story of a young Irish orphan who ends up as an indentured servant on a plantation in Virginia. She works alongside the master’s illegitimate slave daughter and the story unfolds through both of their eyes. Buy at Target or Amazon
Someone Knows My Name: An incredible story of a young girl who is kidnapped from Africa and enslaved in South Carolina. Her story continues to unfold as she escapes. One of the best books I’ve read that is set during the period of slavery in America. Buy at Target or Amazon
The Forgetting Time: An incredible mystery that you will have you up at night turning pages. This story about reincarnation that highlights the connection between a parent and their child and all that you would do for them. Buy at Amazon
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: The story of an aging Hollywood starlet who chooses a no-name reporter to tell her life’s story. Including 7 husbands, ruthless ambition, forbidden love and how the two women’s lives intersect. The twist will leave you slack-jawed. Buy at Target or Amazon
Kite Runner: A #1 New York Times best selling novel about the friendship of two boys growing up in Afghanistan. A powerful story. Buy at Target or Amazon
The Great Alone: Another fantastic novel by Kristin Hannah. A story of survival in the wilderness of Alaska. This book haunts me years after reading it. Buy at Target or Amazon

Pachinko: A tale of a poor Korean immigrant family over multi-generations and how they fight to overcome their circumstances is Japan during the 20th century. Buy at Target or Amazon
