Evening Routine & Sleep Habits for Busy Women
If you are looking to improve your evening routine and sleep habits, below are some practices that I have adopted that help me at night. I have added and taken things away over the years, but these are the habits that have stuck. Research shows that sleep is so important for us to remain healthy and happy. It is an important priority for me and I hope this list is helpful and inspiring for you.
Before Sleep Do These things
Wear real pajamas: I love, love, LOVE pajamas. There is something about putting on a pair of pajamas that tells my brain, hey, bedtime is drawing near. It’s time to relax. For affordable pajamas, you can’t beat these from Walmart. Don’t cheat yourself wearing old tees and crummy pants. Get yourself a few pairs of pajamas. They make a bigger difference than you might expect.
Wash your face: I am fortunate to have great skin not prone to breakouts, so I haven’t always been good with my evening skincare. But washing my face feels so good that I don’t skip it! I love Tula and Dime Beauty products.
Turn off overhead lights and turn on lamps: The ambiance of a room completely changes with overhead lighting turned off. It’s such an easy way to quiet a space before bedtime.
Light a candle: Along with changing the lighting in my home, I love to light a candle. Lighting a candle has become a ritual of peace for me. For fall, I’m loving these candles from Target.
Do a quiet habit, like read or journal: Even just five to ten minutes of a quiet habit (no screens) is a perfect way to end the day. I love this five-minute journal. And for book recommendations, I post all my reads on Goodreads!
For Sleep, Do These Things
Use white noise at night: Studies show that white noise minimize sleep disruptions. I actually prefer “brown noise”, which I listen to on my Amazon Alexa device.
Run a humidifier: A humidifier can help add moisture to the air, which aids in better breathing and deeper sleep. This Canopy humidifier is the nicest I have ever owned. Love that it can also diffuse aroma if you want and that the filter is mold inhibiting.
Use room darkening shades or curtains: A dark room will create deeper sleep. These room darkening shades are similar to the ones I have throughout my house. They are amazing and make the room pitch black, even during daylight hours.
Use a satin pillowcase: A satin pillowcase helps prevent breakage of hair and helps your skin to retain moisture. I love these from Kitsch.
Create a cozy bed: You spend so much of your life in bed, so invest in quality bedding, nice pillows and warm blankets. A sleepgram pillow will change your life, as will a Minky Couture blanket. Use code TURNER45 for 45% off all Minky Couture blankets.
