Test Tomorrow
Last week I had my 1-hour gestational diabetes test. My midwife told me to have a high protein breakfast, so I had a strawberry-banana protein shake before my appointment. Well I ended up testing a little high and have to take the 3-hour test tomorrow. Several people have told me that the banana in my shake probably caused my test to be high, but I am still nervous. I have diabetes in my family, which can be a risk factor.
Please pray that the test goes well tomorrow and that everything comes back normal. I will let you know when I receive my results.
If you have any wisdom/advice/encouragement about this test, please let me know. 🙂
(Christine from the scrapbook store here..) I don’t have any advice about the actual test… if you have it, you want to know! I had it with two pregnancies. It’s not fun, but I managed it well with just my diet. I actually felt great! I know I’m at higher risk for type 2 now, but I work hard to stay healthy and have not had any high blood sugar tests in 8 years. It’s not fun, but it’s not the worst thing in the world either. By the way, the 3 hour test is really stinky. I ended up laying down in their office. Make sure you have something with you to eat right away after the test.
Well when I was pregnant it took them forever to schedule to first little one hour test (i only had about two and a half months to go) and I didn’t even know they were doing it. I had a Dr. Pepper and a Little Debbie snack cake on the way there (I was usually not on time much then lol). Well, obviously my sugar was high and they said they should have made sure I knew what to eat beforehand. So the three hour test was later that week and I did okay until the last hour. By the time they let me know the results though – I only had two months left. I changed my diet a bit, started drinking diet instead of regular soda. My problem was I was eating lots of carbs to counteract the acid reflux I had and couldn’t take medicine for. The changes in my diet weren’t drastic and we were both fine in the end. I’m sure you will be too!! Let us know how it goes and oh, bring a good book to the test!!
Eat a high protein breakfast but without sugar or carbs. So eat something like eggs and cheese, not any kind of fruit. 😉 I have diabetes so I know a little bit about that. I’m almost positive it’s because you had a fruit protein drink that you tested high. Good luck with it!
I’ll be praying for you, hope it goes well.
Maybe I should give the cake decorations a try before I actually start selling my services! I’ve heard they are good.
That green brides maid dress looks amazing on you. Glad you had fun.
My best friend had the same problem and she actually ended up with gestational diabetes. She actually managed it with a specific diet. So praying for you today. For the day of the test don’t have any sugar or carbs. Try fruit and eggs or something other than carbs and fruit. Hope all goes well!
jess, I love you… I am praying for you… your body… your baby… for matthew… for the doctors… God will hold you close. i love you!
Hi Jessica,
I met you and your husband a couple of years back at the After Eve conference in McLean, VA. I was there representing World Vision. Anyway, I linked to your site via your husband’s and glad I did. You are a wonderful woman with a big heart for your friends family and most of all, God. It is so neat to watch you live out that faith in all you do!! Anyway, the reason I am writing is to reassure you that when I was pregnant with my now 4 year old daughter, I tested high with my first test (I would eat a banana every morning to get my prenatal vitamin down)and came through with normal results for the 3 hr test. It was not fun sitting around for the 3 hour test so bring work, a book, scrapbook, etc…And have a healthy meal planned/packed for when you are done. I will be praying for you.
don’t worry. just about everyone i know has failed that test at one time or another. i failed it both times and then passed the 3 hour test with flying colors. relax, take a book to read and try not to gag on the super sweet syrupy stuff they make you drink.
definitely stay away from bananas or any kind of fruit. i have diabetes in my family and bananas are the forbidden fruit!
Hey Jessica, I will say a prayer for ya. It probably was the fruit…you will do just fine….let us know first thing. 😉 By the way…you are very cute pregnant. 🙂
