  1. I love the Johnson’s Soothing Natural Baby Lotion. My daughter’s two years old and I use it on her and myself because the smell is divine and the moisture can’t be beat!
As for wipes, I agree that Huggie’s are best. You can always save your 500 Kirkland wipes for when Elias is older and you are using wipes to wipe off everything.

  2. I am pretty sure that Costco will take back anything if you are not happy. Even if it is already open. Those boxes dry out fast if they don’t seal well, so if you are not using them now, I doubt you ever will! HA!
I always liked Huggies or Luv’s best.

  3. Maybe you could donate the wipes to your church nursery if they need them?

My baby’s not due for another month but I have Johnson’s nighttime lotion (which I love for me), Aveeno, and Burt’s Bees to try out!!

  4. Didn’t we tell You that the costco wipes would suck??? Take them back-even opened, and get a box of huggies wipes. AHHHH.

I have tried plenty of stuff, good ideas at the time-in reality, NOT SO GOOD. Live and learn ; )

  5. Hey Jessica, I found your blog from Angie’s and have been keeping up with your family since before Elias was born. You are correct, the Huggies wipes rock! So glad I read your post, as we buy our diapers at Costco (Huggies) and I was considering trying the Kirkland wipes. Now I won’t waste any money on them! You should call and see if you can return them. I see people returning open food when I am there! Wouldn’t hurt to ask!

  6. i should have commented last week because i too believe huggies wipes are the only way to go! i’ve tried them all with three kids and keep going back to huggies. i love the cucumber/green tea… it’s as close as i get to a spa now-a-days! 🙂

  7. I used the Johnson’s lavender scented calming lotion with my girls.. it helped them relax at bedtime. Love it and the baby wash that smells like it. I plan to try the one you mentioned out the next time we need some lotion! And I agree that Huggies wipes are the best but not their diapers! We do the pampers diapers with huggies wipes and I refuse to buy cheapo wipes. I need something wet and substantial to clean up messes!

  8. My favorite baby lotion was this yummy stuff that Carter’s made – we had a friend give us a basket of Carter’s bath products – it was the best smelling stuff. I can’t remember the name since it was almost 8 years ago, but I bought more and used it forever. I still have the bar of soap, never opened, somewhere – so I knew I could sniff that and remember those baby smells again.

And about the wipes – yes Huggies are the best and Costco may take theirs back – I don’t know, but you can always hang on to them for scrapping – I use wipes to clean my stamps, my cutting board and my hands when I’ve been painting and don’t want to get up from my space to run to the sink! 🙂

  9. The Johnson’s Soothing Natural line is great! I’ve used both the lotion and the hair and body wash, but I only used that on the body. The smell on these is the best that I’ve tried. I also liked the Aveeno body lotion, but didn’t like their diaper cream. The Aveeno lotion really doesn’t have a scent, which I liked initially better than the Johnson’s regular baby lotion (hate that strong smell!) until I tried a sample also of the Soothing Lotion.

  10. Oh, you gotta try Baby Bee (in the Burt’s Bee line). It is free of harsh chemicals or parabans, leaves skin smooth and soft, and smells super yummy.

  11. i swear by Huggies brand Shea butter lotion. Yummy. My baby is covered in it head to toe every night after her bath in Huggies Shea Butter hair and body wash. Also, Huggies wipes are the only way to go. We are Pampers people when it comes to diapers though. We ddi have a bout with eczema though, and used Aveeno wash and lotion through that period of time.

  12. You have to try Johnson’s Skin Care wipes. You can get them at Babies R Us. They are in a pink box. They are great for no bath days and to remove the spit up smell. I love them!

  13. Vanicream!!It’s an over the counter lotion sold behind the pharmacy…your baby’s skin will be SO soft!! It’s great for dry skin and kids with eczema!!

  14. I have twins that are now 2 so I have used quite a bit of baby lotion and my all time favorite is Baby Magic baby lotion, the smell is so good and its really moisterizing. I love the smell of my little twinkies right after a bath and they have baby magic baby lotion. My favorite wipes of all time are the Huggies supreme, I have tried all others, the texture and the way these stay moist makes them the best for me. The diapers that I love and have used ever since my older 7 year old was in them is pampers brand little cruisers, they are great and I have tried all the other brandes and the cheapers buys but I always go back to the little crusiers. I hope you will try these on Elias and let me know what you think. God Bless and have a great day.

  15. Johnson&Johnson calming lavender lotion/body wash. Hands down. The smell is wonderful. Never tried the soothing naturals line, I'll have to look into it when this baby comes.

  16. We don’t even have a baby yet, but I love the Johnson’s Bedtime lotion (the white bottle with the purple cap). Our goddaughter uses it (or her parents do for her, haha) and I loved the scent, so I bought some. Now my husband even uses it on his hands! It absorbs really well and smells lovely.

  17. How funny, I love Costco wipes. The Huggies wipes always leave lint residue on my baby’s bottom. It’s funny how different people like different stuff. Good thing there is always a variety of brands to choose from. Keep up the good work with your blog, I love to follow it. Little Elias is very cute!

  18. I love all of Johnson’s baby products especially the soothing naturals. Aidens skin is so dry and it was the only lotion that worked and had a yummy smell!!! He will be two in December and I still use it on him.

  19. Not much is worse that thin wipes with bad texture on a baby’s bum. My vote it to go back to the Huggies now. Use the Kirkland wipes in your scrap area for cleaning up paint, ink, chalks, glue, gumminess of your scissors, etc. You can also put them in a ziploc baggie and keep them in your purse or diaper bag for any stickiness that might arise. Don’t want to get your glazed donut fingers on your Bible in Sunday School? Use a Kirkland wipe. Get Frappacino on your fingers as you pulled out the straw to lick off the whipped cream? Use a Kirkland wipe. The uses are endless.

  20. Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream is a true staple in my house. We tend to all have some sort of excema type skin issues in the winter and our Pediatrition told us to apply this just after you get out of the bath…Heavenly relief!!

  21. when my now adult children were babies the best thing out there was the Johnson’s baby lotion in the pink bottle. i think they still make it although i have heard good things about the Soothing Natural from other people. as for the wipes, you could just use them to clean up after scrapbooking. i use baby wipes for my hands and to clean stamps….not sure if this particular kind has alcohol in them. i think the take it, leave it posts will be great! very good idea….

  22. Too funny– I just now finished a huge box of Sam's Club brand wipes that we HATED!! I never thought to take them back, but I'm sure they would have. We always use Huggies if we have a coupon, if not, Target brand is by far the best store brand we've found! They are the ONLY ones that compare to Huggies, IMO.
And as for lotion, we love the Johnson&Johnson calming lavender, too! I got hooked on the scent with my DD, and now my poor 6 month old DS has to suffer the smell of lavender as well.

  23. The original Johnson and Johnson’s baby lotion (in the pink bottle). My daughter is 3 and I still use it on her. Huggies are the best wipes. I keep them in her backpack to use them for unexpected clean ups and spills. Grab a small pack for yourself and keep them at your desk at work… they work great if you spill something on your clothes.

  24. I am a Baby Bee fan also, but right now I just use Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. As pure as it gets. Johnson’ s lotion has propylene gycol among the ingredients. And what is that? Antifreeze. It might smell good, it might feel good. But think twice about applying antifreeze on your baby’s skin! More info you can find anywhere about chemial anywhere. One article http://www.webdeb.com/cancer/propylene-glycol.htm. Please check it out. The other bad thing is Sodium Lauryl or Laureth Sulfate. And it is almost in any shampoo, bubble bath. Even in some of the natural ones. It is biodegrable, so it can be called natural, but it is also very harmful. That is the foaming agent. So check your baby stuff, just to be safe. Good Luck on this whole thing. Because you have to watch out whatever you buy!

  25. Ummm…yeah…anything not name brand when it comes to diapers and wipes…steer clear. Unfortunately, they have the market cornered and they are worth every penny. Five boys later and I will say Huggies wipes are best but NOT their diapers. I always preferred Pampers but am currently using Luvs because they seem to work for my fifth son and they are cheaper!

  26. i have always loved the smell of baby magic!!! there is nothing better than smelling a baby right out of the bath who has on baby magic… the only problem is both my babies had excema. guess what that means, no baby magic. it made it worse!! boo hoo!

i use aveeno baby wash and shampoo which is lightly sented so he still smells good and i use the aveeno advanced care lotion. i LOVE these products. the lotion has kept me fom using the steriod creams as often. yeah!!

    blessings ~

  27. I’m with you on the Costco wipes! Yuck! I’m all about the Pampers Swipers. They are thick and work great for us. As for the baby lotion…my little guy has sensitive skin (like his daddy) so we stick with Aveeno lotion. It has a light smell and I breathe in my beautiful baby boy’s head each night after he’s slathered in it.

  28. I dont have a baby but I live with my godson and I love the JOHNSON’S® BEDTIME LOTION® it smells divine!!
Also My Godson was using huggies diapers and his mother just changed to the pampers swaddle ones and let me tell you WE are hating them, Huggies diapers are WAY better (at least for newborns)

  29. Costco will take them back 🙂 I also did not like their wipes ;( I do however love SAM’s 🙂 As far as lotion hmm Johnson lavendar scent (calming) and Arbonne.

  30. those kirkland wipes remind me of moist dryer sheets. I don’t like them either

As for the lotion–I like the classic baby lotion in the pink bottle. just…reminds me of baby

  31. We almost bought the Kirkland wipes last week for our grandbabies. I kept walking around trying to find a young mom to ask if they were any good. I couldn’t find anyone so we just left them on the shelf for another day. Now after reading your post, I won’t bother. Thanks!

  32. Hi Jessica. Love following your story and the adventures of your little guy! My youngest is 7 months and I already miss the early days. I’m still looking for the perfect baby scent. I use the original Johnson’s pink lotion right now, but I use the yellow Shea butter Johnson’s baby wash on my Ethan which is awesome. For wipes, try the Pampers’ swipers– they are the best this time around and I’m a former Huggies lover!– Audrey in PA

  33. Hi Jessica,
I’m so sorry…I was one of the ones prompting you to try the Costco wipes. I love them for my little guy! But, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a mom is that every child is different–with my first son I thought they were too thin and didn’t work as well. Sorry!

Yes, Costco will take them back. However, you might also consider donating them. We have given some to Bundles of Love, an organization that creates diaper bags and layettes for infants in need, and they take individual packs as long as they’re sealed. Church nursery like someone else suggested is also a good idea.

On the lotion front, we love Aveeno Lavender and Chamomile.

  34. Love the Johnson’s soothing naturals! I bought it when I was pregnant and started using it for myself and still love it for my 16 month old.

  35. We are also Pampers diapers/Huggies wipes people! 🙂

As for lotion and baby wash, we use the method line available at Target. method baby squeaky green baby lotion – LOVE the smell!

  36. Completely agree – those wipes don’t hold a candle to Huggies! When my kids were baby babies (ie: less than 3 months old) I used nothing but Pampers sensitive…little did I know how thick and soft Huggies were!!! I can’t use their diapers though…

Love the Love It, Leave It idea, btw…I may have to borrow that sometime 🙂

  37. Hey Jessica,

Yes… Johnson’s is good, but Burt’s Bees is my fave! Give it a try too. I, too was excited about Grey’s Anatomy last week (it was a very ceremonial night at my house). However, I found it hard to stay awake! I think they need some better writers. Oh… I haven’t received the bookmarks yet. Have you sent them? No pressure… just wondering.

    Tami

PS. I’ll be praying for you, your hubby and that sweet baby today. :0)

  38. Totally agree about the Costco wipes! I thought it might only be me since many of our friends use them and seem to like them.
