Baby Scrapbooking Article Topics
I need your advice!
I have been asked by the folks at MyBabyPhotos.net to write a twice-monthly column on baby scrapbooking. So, what should I write about? I want to draw up an editorial calendar for at least the first few months to keep myself on track (and maybe get ahead!).
Some ideas that I have:
- Staying on top of your photos
- Scrapbooking Baby’s Firsts
- You’re Just Like… (Chronicling who your baby looks like, acts like, etc.)
- Watching You Grow
- A Day In The Life with Your Baby
- A Sign of the Times (Photos of gas prices, popular stores, movie theaters, news etc. when baby is born/little)
- Gifts for Grandparents
- Your Baby’s Heritage
- First Birthday
- Sweet Expressions (capturing your baby’s many expressions)
- First Foods (scrapbooking photos like the one below)
1. Handprints/footprints
2. birth story
3. ordinary events: normal day for baby, normal day for toddler,
4. babies room
5. professional pictures
6. legacy: what would you want your baby to know about you, your husband, your family if something happens to you
7. first day of life
8. high’s and low’s ?? struggles as a parent (ie I want to somehow scrapbook how during the first 3 months she cried all day long… what we did, what worked etc) To pass on wisdom for when they are mothers/fathers
9. wishes for your child, hopes you have
Hope that helps.
I think your ideass ound great! I’m hoping to do a better job of scrapbooking our next baby (due in June). I was so caught up in being a new, first-time Mommy when I had our first (3 in April) that I fell behind…horribly. I’m sure your blog and articles will help me stay on task.
I dont have kids but I think something like their first
interaction with:
a live animal
snow
beach (both sand and water)
costumed characters of any sort
bubbles (one of my faves)
musical instruments
when they start to color or paint
How to scrap memories and events you didn’t get pictures of. Hope that makes sense.
I always have a hard time coming up with cute and fun titles. Any help there would be great!
If I come up with anything else I’ll let ya know! Can’t wait to read your articles!
This sounds very exciting! Make sure you shows us your articles – they be a joy to read. I do not have children but I think it isa good idea to scrapbook baby profiles. Over here in the UK you can buy a scrapbook album which has 18 21 slides and each slide has a ‘profile’ for each year so from 1-21 years of age. Each year it documents the same questions like favourite colour, future ambitions, fave food, dislikes etc…maybe you could scrapbook something like that to do an article on. It is a very good idea. My auntyhas done one of my cousin and it is so cute to read! For example when she was 4 she wanted to be a queen when she grew up and her favourite food was toast and now she is 8 and wants to be a baker and her favourite food is roast chicken. It shows the fun changes. I love it! xxx.
Hope you had a lovely Christmas! x.
Great ideas! Congrats on being asked to do this!
Congratulations! How exciting!
How about month to month pregnancy photos.
A section on the baby shower and getting baby’s room ready.
A section on the siblings. How they got ready and of course photos of them with baby.
Baby’s 1st visitors
A section for how to store all of those cute Congratulation on the Birth of Your Baby Cards.
You will do great! What an honor!
Favorite outfits
Picture of baby mixed with a picture of mom or dad at the same age. I did one like that with Santa Pictures
Tell the new parents that they can send the White House a birth announcement and they will send a welcome to the world card.
Favorite Toys
How fun for you to write such an article!
Very cool!
I am not a scrapbooker but what about the little things that start shaping your baby’s personality? The little things that your baby does that demonstrates who they are and who they may become…
I love the girl who has taken a profile picture of her belly each week with a piece of fruit held next to her belly that represents the approximate size/weight of the baby at that point in the pregnancy.
I also think it would be neat to do a set of baby’s favorites in w journalistic style. Baby’s favorite blankie, toy, foods, pet, etc.
Hi Jessica!!! I have been following your blog for some time now and am a frequent visitor. I have to let you know how beautiful your scrapbooking layouts are! You are SO talented at what you do and I always look forward to you next page you have completed and that you are ready to show to us. Honestly…I love love love them and I wish could do my pages as beautiful as yours. I am a fellow scrapbooker myself but always feel like my pages are “the same”. I do have a question too. Where to you get those cute …for lack of better words…journal boxes that you display on your pages and that you write in??? They are adorable and I would love some myself. You have them on many pages, including the Mommy and Me, and Tiny Baby layouts you posted on Dec 10, as well as the Lille Pumpkin layout that you posted on Dec 18. I would love to know where to find them! Thanks Jessica. My e-mail address in case you would like to contact me is creatorsclay@hotmail.com
Thanks for displaying all of your beautiful pages and for giving me a glimps into your life with your hubby and beautuful Elias. He seriously is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen!!! He’s so precious 🙂
Blessings to you!!

All of my ideas are already posted on here…great job everyone! What an honor, Jessica! So excited for you! I love following your blog and catching glimpses of sweet little Elias as he grows. Your scrapbooking talents are truly a gift. I am sooo far behind I don’t know where to start or how to catch up. I just take way too many pictures! Thank God for the digital age, so they are all stored neatly in files rather than taking up a room of my house! One thing I did with Holden each month was to take a picture in the same spot (his was a little chair shaped like a baseball glove) to show his growth. I wrote “I am __ months old today!” on a piece of white computer paper and stuck it somewhere in the picture. In the first few, the paper looked like a poster and the chair looked huge. At the end of his first year, he was eating the paper and filled up the chair. =o)
I need to ask you Jessica, how old are babies before they are not in the baby category anymore? I have a few ideas, but am not sure they ould be for babies. Thanks.
We photographed each child on the same background blanket each month of the first year to show growth, and also took a 4 generation portrait with my grandmother. In my 2nd child’s book, I am comparing the two pregnancies, and also telling how my husband and I met, dated, got married, moved to new apartments, etc., had his sister, before he was born.
To show each babies’ growth the first year, I photographed each child on the same background blanket each month for the first year. Also , we did a 4 generation portrait with my grandmother- 99 yrs old!
I just found your blog from angie’s site and am so excited. I used to scrapbook and now with a 3 and 4 year old, I have fallen SO far behind. You are very inspiring and I am hoping to get caught up. any advice on where to start with thousands of pictures from the last 4 year with 2 boys??! Love you blog!!!
Since one of my resolutions for 2009 is to get caught up with my scrapbooks and albums, I bookmarked your site (off of Angie’s) for inspiration!
One idea I saw before and loved was doing a two-page layout of 12 pictures, one for each of a baby’s first year. The layout was simple — black and white I believe — and the only journaling was the age just below each picture. There were two rows of six pictures each, one along the top of the pages and another along the bottom. The person that made it took the photo of her son on the same chair on the first of each month. I thought it was such a neat chronocle of his first year of life, and how he changed and grew. I think she used it as the last two pages of his baby album.
Good luck with your articles! I look forward to reading them, even though I’m slightly past the “baby” scrapbooking scene these days : (
