  1. I love your handwriting on the pictures for your 365 project. It looks so classy and elegant!

Well done Jessica – I am sure Elias will gobble it! X.

  2. I came to your blog today specifically to ask you for ideas on doing the 365 project without a kit and you already mentioned it. Great. Can’t wait for your ideas. I want a kit!

  3. maybe you could try the flexible silicon ice trays? I’ve never tried them and can’t say I’ve made baby food before, but they seem like they’d work pretty well!

  4. I can not wait to see/ hear how Elias loves the peaches! I look forward to reading about how making your own food goes too as well, as I would like to do the same for my little girl when the time comes. I have a question for you though- could you maybe post about how you went about pumping to build a supply in preparation for work? I plan to start next week (4wk pp with 4wk before I have to return to work) and would love some tips!
Hope you are having a great day!

  5. @anonymous – I pumped once a day (after Elias’s morning feeding) until I went back to work. Once I went back to work, I continued to pump after his morning feeding (typically moms have the most milk in the morning) and then three times a day at work. Hope this helps. What I would pump during the day would be enough for him for the next day at day care.

  6. I know this is personal, but we have boys the same age. Have you decided if you are going to keep nursing Elias? And I’m curious about how much frozen milk you have saved.
My daughter quit nursing on her own, but I don’t think it will be that easy with my son.

  7. You can also just stick the food in the microwave to soften it, then place it in a blender (if it has the puree button) It works just the same. BTW, I’ve used that steamer before and I love it.

  8. Keep us posted on how making the baby food goes! I’m due soon and seriously thinking about making baby food this go round. I’m interested in learning as much as I can about it and getting as many tips as possible.

  9. I use the OXO ice cube trays for our baby food. The cubes come out easily, and they have lids so I can stack the trays in the freezer.

  10. I am glad you are sticking with it! I got frustrated when Caroline was little but has started again. That website has GREAT recipes, Caroline loves many of them!

  11. Hi Jessica,

Glad your making your own baby food 🙂

When I first started making baby food, the first thing I made was Creamed Rice and Peaches. My DD loved it! I just took a can of creamed corn and a can of peaches and put them in the blender and voila! I didn’t freeze it tho, so I don’t know how well it would freeze?

  12. Oh and by Creamed Corn I meant Creamed Rice lol. My brain is just not working today.

    Creamed Rice and Peaches. Yummy.

Sorry, Corn + Peaches – not so nice hehehe.

  13. I found the easiest way to get the food out of the trays was to plug my sink, run a bit of hot water, set the tray in the water for 30 seconds or so, then “twist” the tray to loosen. The hot water on the bottom of the tray really loosened it up without thawing it at all. Good Luck!

  14. congrats on the peaches! I pureed our leftover steamed vegetable mix (peas, corn, carrots, green beans) for Zeke tonight and he loved it (after the first few gags, of course–it always takes him some time to get used to new textures)

    well done!

  15. You can purchase little special little containers meant for homemade baby food. They look like ice cube trays, but are a little bigger and each cube has it’s own lid. Very handy.

  16. After you freeze in ice cube trays, pop them out put into freezer bags with the name of food and date on bags. That way you won’t need so many trays and you can just take out how ever many cubes you need per feeding. As they get bigger you will need alot more food and this is a great way to have say 3 veggie cubes and 3 fruit cubes per meal, without having to make food everyday. Just an idea. I did it and it work great for me being able to steam, puree and freeze whatever is fresh in the store.

  17. I just found your blog (from Angie’s) and scrolled down to read a bit.. i wanted to say that I have an Oster steamer and I LOVE it. Seriously, it’s good for WAY more than baby food! You should try it!!! 🙂

  18. Hi, Just came across your blog and looking around.. I am glad I found this post. My daughter started eating baby food 2 days ago and just today I thought it might be good for me to make my own.

My daughter is awaiting open heart surgery, it is scheduled for May. She is just 6 months old so I am trying to fatten her up a bit before surgery.. because her heart is working harder right now she burns more calories and gains weight a little slower. Does Elias seem to like homemade better or store bought?
