Huggies vs. Pampers
I have shared before that Pampers is my favorite diaper brand. I like everything about them. How they stretch. Their shape. Their cute design. How they next to never leak. Gifts to Grow Points. The list goes on and on.
But they are expensive, so I have been broadening my horizons trying a few other brands. I have been experimenting with Huggies lately and thought I would share my thoughts.
Cost
Thanks to some great promotions, I have been able to get Huggies at a great price a few times and have been very satisfied with them. For instance, this week, you can get them for $6 a pack if you have a Kroger in your area. You get $3 off when you spend $15 or more on Huggies products. Diapers are on sale for $8.99, so two packs are $18 minus $3 is $15. Plus if you have coupons for $1.50 off a pack you get two packs for $12. Not bad. (Be sure to look at the quantity when you are buying them as Huggies recently reduced the number of diapers per pack from 35 to 31 (for size 3). Of course the price didn’t change. I found several 35 packs at Kroger).
Shape/Leak Protection
We have found that the shape isn’t quite as good as Pampers making them a little harder to put on squirmy Elias, but they have never leaked and they don’t irritate his skin. I have only used them a couple times overnight and they have never leaked (however, usually I use Pampers).
Points Promotion
Another reason why I like Pampers is its Gifts to Grow program. While it takes a while to accrue enough points to get prizes, I feel like I am getting the most out of my diaper spending if I save points. I have a few friends that share their points with me, so that helps too. (If you don’t want your points, I will take them off your hands!) 🙂
Well, Huggies now has a points program too – YAY! It’s called Huggies Enjoy The Ride. Unlike Pampers where you accrue points to earn products, with Huggies you accrue points to use for various sweepstakes prizes (ie: use two points and enter to win a $25 Gap gift card). It is totally random if you win. Points are not on products yet, but they can be found in ads, on coupons, and on various websites. You can also earn points for watching video on the site, emailing to it to friends, etc. I haven’t won anything yet, but you can bet I am going to keep trying. I have found a bunch of blogs posting a bunch of codes to get people started. I recommend checking out Freebies for Mom to get more than 100 points!
All in all, I think Huggies are a good alternative to Pampers. Pampers will always be number one in my book, but number two isn’t bad.
How do you think Huggies compare to Pampers?
Oh and just for fun, here is Elias’s 10-month-picture. He is all of a sudden terribly frightened of the monkey chair. It has always been in his room… very strange. So this crying shot is the best I could get. Don’t worry. He was only there for about a minute. Sweet boy… (Ironically, he is wearing a Kroger diaper in the picture. I am trying to use them up!)

We’ve actually been using Luvs recently – cheaper than even Huggies, but I like the stretch better. Of course I’d prefer Pampers. But like you said, they’re expensive! I also find Pampers to be MUCH more absorbent than Huggies (and Luvs).
Out of the two I prefer Huggies. Pampers always leaks with us. But I had my son in Kirkland, Costcos brand. They worked fine and cost a heck of a lot less.
I loved Huggies for both of my kids. But, for some reason, on my son – they worked really well. No leaking, no falling off … and Huggies pull-ups have a “cooling” feature when they get wet. Helped my kids potty train quickly!
We primarily use cloth diapers, but when we travel we use disposables…and I am also partial to Pampers. I love there SwaddleMe diapers, cuz they’re so soft and cozy on my daughter’s little bum. Recently I discovered that Huggies has a Natural line of disposable diapers (which happen to have Winnie the Pooh on them 😉 and bought those for use this summer with all the traveling we’ll be doing. They cost a little more than the regular ones, but not too much AND I’m always getting coupons in the mail and from my mom (who is a lactation consultant). I think it cost me $16 for a pack of 60 with my coupon and it will last me most of the summer, since we use cloth diapers primarily. We don’t have a Costco or Kroger near us, but I do most of my shopping at Walmart (and occasionally Sam’s Club when I’m with my mom who has a membership).
Out of the 2, I prefer Pampers. We always had leaks with Huggies, and I think they are more expensive than Pampers. My preference is Luvs-good fit, no leaks and they smell good too when you put them on!
Well, that answers my question about whether Elias ever does anything but smile adorably. (And he’s even adorable when he’s crying.)
I’m way past diapering although I loved Huggies way back when. As I recall they were one of the first to move away from the plastic to the softer “fabric-feeling” outside and the first to use stretchy top and leg openings and the velcro vs. tape closures. I’m sure diaper “technology” is far beyond all of that now, but those were biggies to me back then.
I always used Pampers with our son. Everything else leaked with him. With our daughter, we have used many kinds and had very few leaks. We had primarily used Pampers when we switched to the Target brand. I didn't like them as much, but they worked. Target recently repacakged their diapers & wipes and since then they never ever have her size. Of the remaining brands, I still like Pampers best, but most recently tried out Luvs. So far so good. We're close to potty training though! Woo hoo! But those Pull Ups are a racket. I will be hunting for coupons!
We love Huggies over night diapers they have CHANGED my life in the mornings. We were having to do bath and laundry every morning!!
I haven’t ventured to try them for daily use yet, but maybe I will give them a shot!
I use Pampers and just started using there points rewards. I also use Parent’s Choice. I use the cheap diaper during the day at home and the brand names while out and about and at night. The cost difference it OK, if the child is older (2 1/2) I don’t have to change his diaper as often. But for my 12 mth old I have to change her more because the diapers aren’t as good, so she wear pampers more. We don’t care for Huggies because of the band at the top. although we have used them, just not my first choice.
Definately Pampers. We have tried it all (even cloth). But, now with our third baby, we have just learned to quite trying and just go straight for the Pampers!
Would you believe that little tears just sprang to my eyes for the poor little peanut?!?
Darn monkey.
😉
I am a Pampers snob, and they are the only I would put on Anna overnight because everything leaks. Even Pampers sometimes wouldn’t hold everything. Part of the “problem” is that she sleeps from 6:30p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (she’s 17 months) so any diaper that can hold that much for that long is awesome. (I do realize how blessed I am that she is such a great sleeper, and it took a while to get there!) Well, I have a new favorite. This week we started on a pack Huggies overnights. They are unbelievable! Dry comfortable nights all week!
I have been a pampers mom as well! They are so great but very expensive. I have tried a few off brands and they do the job now that my son is about half potty trained, but Pampers is still my thing! Pampers is best for the young kids (under 1 year) so I think with our next one (coming in January) we will try and keep with the pampers until the one year mark.
Now that my son is almost two, we use Huggies Overnights and they are THE ONLY diaper that doesn’t leak through for him at night! THE ONLY ONE!!! Otherwise, I am not a big Huggies fan…never have been. They seem to bulky.
Just some thoughts 🙂

I have ALWAYS used Pampers with both my kids. But, they started leaking with my 2 year old son. I switched to Huggies and LOVE them. They absorb much more liquid than Pampers ever did. Plus, I always have $1.50 off coupons from Huggies either via mail or in Sunday’s ad.

I used to work in a daycare and saw every brand of diaper. I would change 9 kids’ diapers in 30 minutes and I was a believer in Huggies. Thought they were great and thought they were cheaper. Then I had my boy and discovered that his body and Huggies just didn’t go well together. I received some Pampers as a gift and never again did Huggies touch my child’s bottom. My local grocery store has a price-per-diaper cost on the shelf and Huggies are actually 3 cents more than Pampers per diaper.
I’ve heard that the Costco’s Kirkland brand of diapers are actually made by Huggies, which is why they are so similar.
I love the points rewards with Pampers and have got quite a bit of cool toys with it. I don’t really like that I have to pay a lot for shipping the product though. In the end it’s not much cheaper than driving to a store and buying the same item.

Here is another site with codes for Huggies! I am guessing some are repeats, but soooo worth it!
I’m pregnant with #2, due in November, and will definitely give Huggies another shot then, but I know with my almost-3 year old it’s been Pampers all the way. From what I hear from friends with experience, Huggies are fine for boys but not so much for girls. My Saralynn came home from day care one day with a Huggies on (not sure if the wrong one got put in her cubby or what), but she was SOAKED when she got home and the diaper wasn’t even that full. A Pampers could’ve held that and then some. But, if this is a boy, we’ll give them a shot and see what happens. I’m with you and alot of other moms out there- do what’s best for your child, yet what’s cheap, too, never hurts!
Thanks for reminding us of Angie’s birthday. I just left a comment!
Blessings,

I heart the piccy! xoxox.
i go both ways, but am adamant about my preference—pampers (baby dry-not the other line) during the day, and huggies overnites at nite. my son is almost two, and this combo works great! i don’t like huggies during the day because they seem stiff and they don’t fit his skinny middle, but pampers leaked at nite. so we found a happy medium!
when we used disposables we loved pampers. huggies always leaked on my girls. but a few months ago we started using cloth and haven’t looked back. the initial cost of cloth diapers for us is what we spent in TWO months on diapers. (we have three in diapers) i love cloth and wish i would’ve been introduced earlier to them. they’re easy. and once i did research about what is really in disposable diapers, it made me feel SO much better. disposables diapers contain dioxin, which is a cancer causing chemical banned in most countries. isn’t that scary? i thought so. i do not want to seem to be a cloth diaper snob, but i feel that as parents we need to make educated choices about stuff. thanks for listening. :0)
I am a Luv’s girl.I think they are fantastic.they are cheeper than Pampers and Huggies(which I do not like)The little girl that I watch uses Huggies and they are horrible.I also like the way Luv’s smell.Last time I bought diapers though, they were out of size three Luv’s at our Walmart. So I bought a pack of Parents Choice(walmarts brand) And ya know what,I actually like them.Who knows!Maybe I’ll switch!
Poor baby! Thanks for posting that shot. I actually thought he never cried.
It’s been so long since I used diapers. Pampers was my #1 choice when I had coupons and watched sale papers. Huggies brand was my #2 choice. I think mainly because they smell weird when wet???? Can’t remember if that’s right, but one brand did.
I’m a Pampers fan too but I recently had a diaper/wipes shower with the youth group at my church (my husband and I volunteer,) so I have a closet full of diapers. Maybe 2 packs of Pampers are there and the rest are all over the map–Huggies are there too but very few packs of them as well. Most are the Target brand or Walmart brand so I’m trying to be grateful and motivate myself to use them all up…when I’d secretly like to trade them in for Pampers! It’s terrible isn’t it?
Jessica…Omg….I can’t believe no one is talking about that HORRIBLE MONKEY scaring my little Elias!!!!! I just busted down laughing when I saw it ….all of a sudden your sissy didnt like the clown pics that had been there since you were born….hahaha Never a dull moment as a mom!!!xoxo Mom
I always had a terrible time with Pampers. They would slide right off my oldest daughter (when she was a newborn) and don’t even get me started on the leaking/blowout escaping factor! Funny how people have such differing experiences! I use Kirkland’s diapers primarily now (with child #4,) unless the Huggies at Costco are on sale.
I’m still using Pampers at home and on the weekends and Kroger Brand and Target brand at daycare. They change Kaitlyn every 2 hours, so I saw no need to send Pampers and spend more money than I need to. I buy my Pampers in bulk at Sam’s and the box last forever- especially now that I only use them at home. I love their gifts to grow point system too! I found some codes online the other day that you might want to try: WELCOMEBONUS089 , GIVE09UNICEFGTG , OHAMANDAAWGTG08 , WELCOME2GTG0809 , HAPPYMOTHERSDAY , THRIFTYMOMMYGTG .
I am also trying to gather points on the new huggies program- so thanks for sharing the link with codes!

Well, I use cloth.. but this is great info still! Cute picture! 🙂
I like huggies. I had a bad Experiance with Pampers maybe it was just the ones they sent home from the hospital all 5 packs, but, they leaked really bad. If Baby Boy Peed once it was like I had to change him right away. But the Huggies will last him over night. (plus I found a $5 off copon for them on coupns.com)
We use Huggies over night diapers – they work wonderfully and it makes morning routine much better.
For every day use, we love the Target brand of diapers the best – he’s been able to stay in size 4 for what feels like almost a year! We do not use Parent’s Choice from Wal Mart because they leak, and smell horrible. The Target brand does not leak, does not have an odor, and they have stretchy tabs.
I’ve never been a Pampers fan myself.
