Introducing Elias the Gnome (Baby Gnome Costume Tutorial)
If you want to make a baby gnome costume for Halloween or a costume party, this one is super simple to make.
My darling son Elias had a costume parade at school today, but would not wear the hat – ha! I got this shot by giving him the leaf and having him wave at the camera.
Tricky, tricky… 🙂
The baby gnome costume took about an hour and a half to make: 45 minutes for the tunic and 45 minutes for the hat (mostly because I had to make two, since the first was too big).
If you want to make a baby gnome costume for Halloween, here are some simple instructions for how to make it. It’s the perfect craft for someone with limited sewing skills. It is so, so easy to make and it was the hit of Halloween around here.
Supplies for Halloween baby gnome costume:
For the gnome tunic:
- Take a large piece of felt, folded in half. Cut the neck hole. Sew the sides, leaving holes for the arms.
- Cut the arm holes in a bit to give it some shape
- Cut felt for belt and buckle – use stitch witchery to iron it on.
For the gnome hat:
- Use the poster board to create the hat.
- Roll it into a cone and staple. Cut excess poster board from the hat.
- Tape string to either side
- Adhere felt to hat (I used my Creatopia, which worked great! You could also use hot glue, just be careful not to burn yourself)
This baby gnome Halloween costume is super simple to make and will be a favorite for years to come! Be sure to share in the comments if you end up making this costume.
