My Camera Needs Repairs
This week I was AWFUL at taking photos for Project Life.
Some weeks are like that though so I planned to do some “catch-up shots” – laundry folded on the washer, the new blinds that Matthew hung (and look AMAZING), etc. Last night I popped my card in my 40D and tried to take a picture.
Nothing happened.
I changed settings.
Tried to click.
The lens focused, but again, nothing happened.
I switched lens.
Same thing. NOTHING.
I began to panic.
I haven’t had my 40D for a year, but I bought it (barely) used and it doesn’t have a warranty.
I started googling and asked Matthew to look at it. He noticed that it wasn’t reading the card. Sure enough – “play” wouldn’t work and no numbers were showing up.
I tried a different card.
Nothing.
So I called canon. He asked if it would take a picture without a card in it. I said, oh, I have that setting turned off. He said go to the menu and let’s turn it on. I pushed the menu button – nothing.
Needless to say, I have to send it in for repairs. They will take a look at it, get me a repair estimate and then it will take 7-10 days to fix after they receive it. I’m praying that it isn’t too expensive to fix…
It ruined my night. I even cried. (I blame pregnancy hormones.)
Guess I will be using the point and shoot for the next few weeks.
Hope Adeline doesn’t arrive too early. 🙂
oh no friend. sad. hoping it’s not to expensive. I realized I have had the image stabilization off for 6 months on my camera….That’s why all my photos have been blurry. ugh.
YUCK! It took six months before I realized that my 50 mm 1.8 lens was not getting better and needed to get replaced. I just upgraded to the 1.4 lens and am loving it!
When we had our third child, our digital camera was getting repaired. My water broke at 2am 2 1/2 weeks before my scheduled c-section, so we stopped at Walgreens and bought disposable cameras on the way to the hospital!!!! But hey! We still captured the moments on photographs, and we now laugh at the story! 🙂
HA! I do have a good point and shoot, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world… everything seems dramatic to me these days.
So sorry about your camera.
I have both a Canon P&S and an Olympus DSLR. I shoot the majority of my Project Life photos with the Canon because it is always with me (usually in my pocket).
It’s okay to cry! My camera quit charging the other day and I cried. And I don’t have pregnancy hormones to blame it on.
Oh so frustrating! My camera stopped taking pictures a while back, and I was so upset! I had a point and shoot as a back-up, but I use my Nikon every single day to take pictures of my daughter, and I did not want to have to live without it!:)
Off topic, but since you like deal sites, I discovered a new one today:

Oh no! I am so sorry that your camera is sick. I’ve been crying over mine, too, but don’t have the blessing of pregnancy hormones to blame the tears on. Just post-hysterectomy hormones.
I hope that they will be able to get your camera back to you quicker than the estimate and not an huge repair bill AND in time for that little one’s arrival. I’m glad that you have a good point & shoot, just in case. 🙂
I hope that you have a beautiful Mother’s Day!
Jessica,
What do you mean by, “It took six months before I realized that my 50 mm 1.8 lens was not getting better and needed to get replaced.” I have the 50 mm 1.8 lens and am curious to what you meant by that?
Thanks,
Bethany
I just was having a lot of focusing issues with it. Because I had a new camera, I thought it was somehow related to the way I was using it, not the lens itself.
Jessica,
I remember you posting a better choice to send your camera in for repairs instead of Canon. I can’t find where you posted it now. Can you tell me? I think you said it was cheaper too.
I’m having focusing problems. They originally said to use an eraser and rub on the sensors on the camera after taking the lens off and on the lens sensors too. It worked for awhile and not same problem.
Thanks,
Kathy
