The Cicadas are Coming
I hate bugs.
Hate. them.
And I am petrified of the cicadas that are making their appearance in Middle Tennessee.
Matthew bought me a big hat because a friend told me that there are so many they get caught in your hair when you go outside.
They might send me into early labor…
Oh me too! ICK! They freak me out! I hate their little crunchy bodies, and they leave their shed shells all over. Oh they are so nasty. Of course, my boys find them fascinating and love to show them to me, but I am with you, they are horrifying. Wear that hat!! 😉
When I was in primary school we used to find their discarded shells on the tree all around the school playground – and I was always so glad I never actually saw the ‘live’ cicadas! The fact that they shed their skins creeped me out – and still does (kinda like snakes!)
These days I am glad we live out in the rural surrounds where we are not ‘blessed’ by these creatures … we just have snakes which, on (very rare, thankyou God) occasions decide to join us inside – three nights ago I discovered a python slithering along the floor towards the toilet (room), in who’s doorway I stood, at 5am! Thankfully Mum & Dad’s bedroom is next door (still live with them as single mother who can’t afford the rent and living expenses on my slim salary) and I was able to call out to Dad to get him to remove said snake.
If I’d had the choice though, I would still chose this option over all those cicadas flying around!
I wish you the very best to get through this season!
I remember being fascinated by the shells stuck to the trees as a kid – and I remember hearing them outside when I was inside. But I don’t remember ever seeing them…and I’m glad!:). We lived in Texas for 3 years early in our marriage, and we occasionally had a cockroach in our house. Awful! I screamed like a little girl every time I had to attack one with bug spray and I am confident the same would be true if I encountered cicadas. Wear that hat!:)
I grew up in the desert Southwest, and although not particularly pretty to look at, their loud buzz always signals the return of the summer rains and for this I’m always truely thankful.
Good luck in the next few weeks of your pregnancy. Something I always loved to do at the end was get a pedicure since I couldn’t see my toes let alone paint them! D-day will be here before you know it take some time during these final weeks of quiet to pamper you!
