We love music in our house. Elias has an entire basket filled with CDs and we often listen to music in the car and at night.

The Interview
What were your goals as you wrote and recorded The Merry Goes ‘Round?
I HAD SEVERAL GOALS:
1) I WANTED THE CD TO APPEAL TO INFANTS, TODDLERS AND OLDER KIDS. TO DO THIS I MADE SONGS THAT HAVE GREAT BEATS TO ENGAGE LITTLE ONES, I USED BRIGHT AND COLORFUL PRODUCTION TO ENGAGE TODDLERS, AND I USED CLEVER AND FUNNY STORYTELLING LYRICS TO INTEREST THE OLDER KIDS.
2) I WANTED TO MAKE A CD THAT DIDN’T TALK DOWN TO KIDS AND DIDN’T BORE PARENTS. TO DO THIS I USED THE MOVIE ‘SHREK’ AS A ROLE MODEL- AS IT HAD JOKES FOR KIDS, AND ALSO HUMOR AND VALUE FOR PARENTS. I THINK PARENTS WILL APPRECIATE THE CRAFT, PRODUCTION AND CONTENT OF THIS RECORD, AS MUCH AS KIDS WILL ENJOY THE STORIES AND MORALS OF EACH SONG.
3) I WANTED TO MAKE A CD THAT HAD MANY DIFFERENT STYLES, AS I WANTED TO EXPOSE KIDS TO ALL KINDS OF GENRES OF MUSIC, FROM DIXIE LAND TO BLUES TO FOLK TO AMERICANA ROOTS. BASICALLY I WANTED THIS ALBUM TO DO IT ALL!

MY FAVORITE SONG IS ‘JUST LIKE PENGUINS DO’. I CAN’T WAIT TO PLAY IT FOR MY SON AND TELL HIM I WILL LOVE HIM FOREVER, JUST LIKE PENGUINS DO…
How are you making working motherhood work for your family?
I AM LEARNING AS I GO! I HAVE TAKEN TIME OFF FROM TOURING WITH NO REAL PLANS TO GO BACK SO THAT I CAN FIGURE OUT MY OWN RHYTHM. I WORK FROM THE HOUSE NOW ON RECORDING PROJECTS LIKE “THE MERRY GOES ‘ROUND,” AND WILL MAKE OTHER RECORDS FOR ADULTS, TOO. I’M SURE I WILL TRAVEL AGAIN TOO, BUT I JUST WANTED TO ENJOY THIS SPECIAL TIME IN MY BABY’S LIFE – HE IS ONLY A BABY ONCE!
How has motherhood changed you?
IT HAS HEALED THE LAST HOLE IN MY HEART. HAVING A CHILD IS NOT JUST LIFE CHANGING – IT’S SOUL CHANGING. I FEEL SO HAPPY AND FULL.
This is your second record for children/babies, do you have any plans to tour with these songs?
I HAVE NO TOUR PLANNED. THAT’S THE GREAT THING ABOUT AN INDIE PROJECT LIKE THIS – THERE ARE NO RULES! I CAN MAKE MUSIC I LIKE AND STILL SPEND TIME WITH MY CHILD.

I would give it to my daughter in LA, to listen to with my grandson far away from Gigi here in the midwest.
I would love to share this wonderful cd with my children, they are 9, 7, and 4, but I will probably send it to my sister who does not live near us. She has a beautiful 2 year old who LOVES to sing and dance. We do not get to share many moments with her due to the distance, but it would make my heart smile to give it to her. 🙂

I would LOVE to give this CD to my children – I have a 9 month old and a 5 year old. I am going through a very much unwanted divorce and I am really trying to keep as much stability and happiness in my chilldrens lives. I have found music is an inexpensive way (at 99cents a song!) to put a smile on all of our faces despite what is going on! I would give it to my wife and three children so they could listen to a great songwriter. All three of them take piano lessons and have such an appreciation for music.
I would give it to my wife. She is a great mom of our 3 yr old son who has juvenile arthritis and a primary immune deficiency, and to our 15 month old who was IUGR and has significant growth and development delays. She also runs our non-profit project to help feed AIDS orphans in Lesotho, Africa. Because of our kids health we are “stuck” at home a lot and they love music and dance.

~ I treasured the times reading and singing with my daughter when whe was a baby. Becoming a Mom was absolutely the most joyous, emotional time in my life. Today she is excelling in writing, and loves music. She has strength, poise, confidence, smarts, love and walks to the beat of her own drum. So, my daughter and I would actually enjoy this together which we can share and purchase for others as welcome baby gifts; seems evcryone is pregnant these days, something in the water. I’ve been a huge fan of Jewel for as long as I can remember. I’ve seen her many times and have been a faithful fan for many years. When I learned she was writing a childrens album I was thrilled. I would share this album with my two daughters Ava 4 and Ali 5 months. My greatest accomplishment is my children and I’m so blessed to have two of the most amazing daughters in the world. They truly are the best things that have ever happened to me and what better way to spend time with them by listening to beautiful music together.

I would love to give this to one of the members of my MOPS (Mother’s of Preshcoolers) moms. I am the coordinator of our loval group this year and would love to bless on of the deserving, caring and wonderful mothers. We have about 40 moms attend our meetings that we hold twice a months. It is a little 2 hour break for them to fellowship, learn new things, build friendships and be creative while thier children are taking care of in our MOPPETS program. For some of our mothers, this is the only time they get any time for themselves away from thier precious kiddos, to reboot and focus on God’s desire for them as women and mothers. I would give/play this album for my three adorable kids (4,2.5, and 14 months). The LOVE music and ask for it all the time we are in the car and at home to dance and clap too. I grew up listening to Jewel and LOVE her voice.

I would give this CD to my son. He loves to listen to music, and his grandma insists that he needs more children’s music. (His dad isn’t a fan of children’s songs, and prefers to play him punk and rock from the “adult” iTunes collection.) This CD sounds like it would be kids music that even daddy would enjoy – or at least tolerate lol.

I would (selfishly) keep it for my new 2 month old babe – she seems to be a music lover!
What a beautiful effort you had for this project and example of resting in God’s appointed time for your life, I want my grandson to listen to these songs…he is our first and only so far and turns 18 months old this month. His name is Ishmael and it means, “the Lord has heard”, or “God will listen”…how appropriate. He loves music, dancing to it and learning to sing already.
