Project Life Tuesday
My album is almost complete – yay! I didn’t totally finish my 2012 Project Life album because my hard drive with ALL OF MY PHOTOS crashed.
I’m trying not to be hysterical because I had no other back-up system. We are praying the files can be recovered since the drive includes every photo EVER TAKEN from Adeline’s life.
Here’s a video of the three spreads I did get completed this week. I noticed that I used lots of fun washi tape and Christmas elements. 🙂
Also, did you see Becky Higgins’ blog yesterday? She shared a TON of new products that are releasing later this spring. Lots of amazing stuff coming. I’m so excited.
The kits for this year should be in by the end of the week. I’ll be sure to post when they are available. (I’m planning on ordering Seafoam. What about you?)
Updated to add: I do NOT recommend on waiting for one of these new kits that Becky announced yesterday to do your 2013 album. Based on my experience, the catch-up process (if you are doing a weekly album) can be stressful. It is not worth it. I recommend getting one of the kits available in January for your 2013 album and use one of the new kits for your 2014 album and/or for an album that isn’t timely (ie: catching up on old photos from another year). If you are doing a weekly 2013 album, don’t wait. You will probably regret it. (At least that’s my opinion.)
Update #2: Project Life kits are showing up on Amazon today. Here’s what’s available (so far) – I’ll keep updating as more items show up:
Project Life Core Kit – Olive Edition (This is such a pretty kit. I think it would be great for an album of old photos.)
Project Life Designer Paper – Olive Edition (I love having coordinating cardstock available.)
Project Life Core Kit – Seafoam Edition (This is the kit I am using for my 2013 album)
Project Life Designer Paper – Seafoam Edition
Project Life Childhood Mini Kit – Wellington Edition (I ordered this – it is the most gender neutral)
Project Life Childhood Mini Kit – Mayfield Edition (This edition is more girly)
Project Life Childhood Mini Kit – Bridgeport Edition (This edition is more boyish. I ordered it to go along with the Wellington edition.)
Photo Pocket Pages – Big Pack of Design A (60 Pages) (my favorite pages that I use the most often)
Photo Pocket Pages – Big Variety Pack 2 (60 Pages) (both of the styles in this pack of pages are featured in my video from this week)
Project Life Mini Album – Kiwi (love this mini albums – perfect for a trip or smaller group of photos!)
Project Life Mini Album – Cherry
Project Life Mini Album – Rain
Project Life Mini Album – Cinnamon
Project Life Mini Album – Midnight
Can’t wait to see your pages!
Seafoam, definitely. I wasn’t going to order a kit this year until Elise announced she had designed one. I’ve been following her for over a year and I just love her style. Good luck on the pictures. I reminded my sister to make sure she is uploading her pics to Shutterfly or something just in case.
We take 1-2,000 photos a month so I just gave up on uploading online… Definitely going to get two hard drives though!
Good luck with retrieving your photos. How scary. A friend uses an online service called Back blaze and has 2 other hard drives at home for backup. She also prints a copy of everything and puts it in a photo box.
I found a friend to split the Sea foam kit with me, since I’m also subscribed to the Studio Calico kits. I like having different options for each spread!
Good luck with getting your photos back!! I am an IT person and do hard drive recovery quite a bit and depending on where the drive is damaged the odds are pretty good of getting your files back!
I do online backup with my stuff and I am currently backing up 560 GB of data! That is a lot of stuff but that includes all my photos, digital scrapbook stuff, music etc. For $55 a year it is a steal!
There are some companies that will send you a drive to put your files on for the first backup because the initial back takes forever (mine took over a month). After that it doesn’t take long to backup nightly (even after a week-long trip with LOTS of photos). Mine runs every night at midnight and backs up any files that have been added or changed that day.
Dual hard drives in your house are better than nothing but if your house is robbed OR if it sustains damage in a fire/natural disaster those drives are destroyed too. Plus you have to make sure you are consistent in backing stuff up to both drives. Off site backup is the safest way to go (sorry to get preachy but I see WAY too many people who lose all their stuff).
Good luck 🙂
@Sue – what service do you use?
Denise, I use BackBlaze. I used to use Mozy but they started charging too much and switched from unlimited to pay-per-use. I believe it is Carbonite that allows you to do your initial back via an external hard drive and then send it to them – it would be way faster than how I did it with Backblaze.
PC Mag did a good review of backup plans – even though they don’t love Backblaze as much as me it is a good place to start comparing plans.

thnaks for the info and the link!
Oh NO!! That is NOT good about your photos! I have nightmares about that happening. I really need to start backing mine up more often on my external hard drive and maybe even a secondary hard drive. Yikes.
Anyway – I just wanted to chime in and say that I TOTALLY agree about not waiting to start PL for 2013 until the new kits come out in May. I am currently about 9 months behind on my 2012 album and finally just organized and ordered all of my prints so that I can get caught back up – I’m determined to get it finished so that I can start my 2013 (waiting also to order the Seafoam this week). When I do PL normally (which means actually staying fairly caught up), I usually have enough stuff for almost 2 albums full. I’m planning on using the Seafoam for 2013 and then using one of the new kits for the second half of hte year. I know it’s probably excessive to have 2 albums for one year, BUT I like feeling like I don’t have to limit myself by choosing just one photo a day, etc. It makes me feel less guilty for taking up several page protectors for vacations, etc.
Oh I hadn’t seen the new Project Life stuff! Wow! I have Cobalt for “this year” (I do August-August because I started when my daughter was born, but I’ll definitely be buying the jade kit for the following year when it comes out:)
Oh man, your hard drive issue is one of my worst nightmares! I take tons of pictures as well and have a huge SD card (32 GB), so I don’t delete anything off that until I have them backed up on my computer, an external hard drive and on Shutterfly. We have one hard drive in our fire-proof safe and another that is out and more easily accessible for uploading to, and I have told my husband that in an emergency it is the thing I am grabbing after the kids:)
Ours once crashed to the floor — my husband and I literally sat there staring at each other in shock for minutes…pictures were backed up elsewhere but all videos? Oh my. Thankfully it was fine.
Good luck retrieving it! You should be fine!!!:)
Oh my gosh I have my fingers crossed for you for your photos. I had that happen a few years ago and did lose some things.
I do have a question. I am new to project life this year. What do you mean about the seafoam kit, etc. How exactly does project life work? What do I need to start, etc?
Check out Becky’s website for a fun video http://www.beckyhiggins.com/ then head over to the products page to learn about all that is available. The foundation of your album is a core kit and seafoam is one of the new options for 2013. The products page lists everything you need to get started! 🙂
Oh no! I hope you are able to retrieve everything. My computer crashed last year and it was awful waiting to see if I could get everything back. Thankfully it all worked out well. Hope you can retrieve everything. I love the pages you were able to complete. All the elf pictures are fantastic.
I keep promising myself I will NOT buy any of Becky Higgins’ paper products until I’ve gotten my scrapbooking stash down, but those new kits coming out may get me. They are SO wonderful.
Maybe just one kit?! I have found that they have inspired me to use more of my supplies. 🙂
Oh no Jessica I hope your pictures can be retrieved I know how much they mean to you. I don’t load mine online either, but I will definitely think about getting a back up drive. Crossing my fingers for you:(
Enjoyed the video girl !!!!
Oh. My. So sorry about the hard drive. Praying for you, too, that you are able to get them back! My girlfriend’s sister just lost her house to a fiire the other night and while they are all safe and that is THE most important — the next thought goes directly to all of the pictures and memories lost. So sad.
As always, love your albums, and your children are just too adorable — thanks for sharing!
Sorry about the hard drive crash! I hope you are able to recover your photos! That would be my worst nightmare. I always enjoy looking at your pages. And I finally got to link up this week … made my first-ever digital PL pages today!
Shouldn’t the first line in this post say 2013? Am I in the wrong place?
Or it could just be a typo… there’s always that. 🙂 Sorry! I copied code from a previous post. You are in the right place. Welcome!
Wishing you all the best getting the photos recovered from the hard drive, we’ve had it happen 3 times luckily we had all the photos and documents saved by a friend… Now we triple back up: main hard drive , 1st ehd then 2nd ehd as we have had both our main and back up drive go in one week ! It’s so stressful. Lucky you have your beautiful PL album.
