How I Use thredUP + FREE Credits
Adeline wearing an outfit from thredUP
I have been meaning to write about thredUP for awhile now and this promo is the perfect excuse.
thredUP is a site that sells new and gently used kids clothes at great prices. Let me tell you a little bit about how I use the site first, then share some awesome promotions.
I have bought some GREAT clothes for Adeline on thredUP. I have bought some plain shirts to upcycle and embellish. I have bought basics like jeans and cute shirts. I have also bought a lot of boutique clothing that I have never seen anywhere else/would not be able to afford.
Without question, some of my favorite outfits Adeline had this fall/winter season were from thredUP. She wore a thredUP outfit for her school pictures. She wore a thredUP outfit for Thanksgiving.

And they were bought for a fraction of retail.
thredUP let’s you sort by size, style and price. I often sort by price, highest to lowest to find the products that are new with tags or more botiquey.
thredUP does also offer an option to send your clothes to them in exchange for credit. I have read mixed reviews of this program (many have said they didn’t get what they thought their clothes were worth). I have not participated, so have no personal experience to share. All I know is that I have been VERY happy with the clothes I have purchased.
SO, if you haven’t checked out thredUP, I would encourage you to do so. You’ll save your family some money + get some fabulous clothes. Here are three ways to earn some awesome credits to get you started.
New Customers $10 Credit
thredUP offers all new customers a $10 credit. Since the site has many items items in the $2-$4 range, so you should easily be able to get get up to 5 items for just the cost of shipping (starts at $2.99). Or, you could be like me and search by highest to lowest price and find a new item probably priced in the $10 range.
Once you sign up, you will also receive a referral link. Every time you share it and someone purchases through it, you will earn a $10 credit to the site – YEOW!
Additional Unlimited $5 Credit for thredUP Womens
thredUP is launching a women’s division. To get it off the ground, they have a great promo going. For every person that you refer, you get a $5 credit to the site. SO awesome. Go sign up, then refer all your friends. (This is a totally different link/sign-up than the kids account). This is an excellent way to earn some free clothes for yourself.
Have you used thredUP to shop for clothes? What bargains have you found?
Thanks to Crystal from Money Saving Mom who posted about this deal. Can’t wait to hang out with her at Killer Tribes this weekend! If you will be there, please say hello. 🙂
I have actually bought clothes and sent clothes in for credit – while I didn’t receive every penny of credit that I thought the clothes were worth, I would have just given the clothes away otherwise, so any credit they gave me was fine by me and I used it to buy some great things for my little one. I’ve even bought some nice bigger size pants for my 12 year old.
I used thredUP when they had their old sales model where you bought and sent boxes from other users. Loved it then and got some awesome pieces for dollars. After they changed to this model, I have ordered once to get some school uniform pieces. It’s more convenient to order online, but I spent the same or more than if I went to a local thrift shop.
Thanks for telling us about this great site, Jessica. I just used your referral link only to realize going through the referral link voids the opportunity to use the LUCKY15 code. It might work to use both if people don’t shop through your link for their first purchase and then go back and make a second purchase through your referral link. I sent an email to customer service to see if they would allow me to use both codes for two separate purchases so we’ll see…but as of now it’s telling me LUCKY15 is for first time purchases only and setting up a second account in my husband’s name would violate their terms of service…so I still got $10 off, but I would have opted for the $15 if I knew I only got one shot…just wanted to clarify for other readers since you weren’t exactly sure how it worked. Thanks again! 🙂
Hey Shannon. Thanks SO much for leaving this comment. I was thinking that folks would use the $15 coupon code and then in their account would be a $10 credit to use at another time. It sounds like you are saying this is not the case- you had to use either one or the other, right? Let us know what customer service says! 🙂
It turns out both the LUCKY15 and referral link promotions are both only good for first time orders. Using the referral link automatically applies the $10 code. I don’t know if there’s a way to override that code with the LUCKY15 so you can still get referral credit and readers can still get $15 off or not. But it doesn’t seem like there’s a way to use both. Either code is a good deal and the site has some great bargains. So I’m happy with my purchase. Thanks again 🙂
You can override the code. Once you go to “proceed to checkout” on the left will show a promo code (the $10 off). SImply remove that code and you can add the LUCKY15.
There is another site for second hand women’s clothes that I love. Its called liketwice.com. I’ve gotten some great Anne Taylor stuff there that I would never have been able to afford at full cost. I haven’t tried the thredup version so I can’t compare, but it sounds similar.
LOVE LOVE LOVE thredup! I literally re did my entire summer closet from there! A ton of stuff was NWT! 🙂 And I got a hunch of polo stuff for my boys for super cheap! Have you ver tried “Twice”? 🙂 LOVE IT! It’s super similar to thredup butttt, if you use my link (please 🙂 ) you’ll get $10 free and then for every mobile device you download the Twice app onto, you get $10 credit free (up to three devices) so I got $40 worth of stuff free AND you can use it for shipping costs too! Ohh and they have a summer code right now for 15% off! So you can use the $40 all together and the 15% off (SWEETSUMMER is the code!) happy shopping!!
What are your favorite ways/places to share your ThredUp referral link without driving your friends on Facebook nuts? 🙂
I think you need to be authentic and organic. Share photos of you/your kids in thredup clothes. Do an unboxing video. Just remind periodically. 🙂
Here’s a free $20 credit at Thredup!
Do check the new with tag items so you can snag something for free!!

Do you know how long it takes to receive the credits once someone has completed a purchase using your referral link? I’ve been looking everywhere for the answer and I’m having a hard time. Any insight will help thank you!
